Name Above All Names. Through Christ Alone May We be Saved

Nearly three-quarters of the world’s population adherents of one of the five most influential religions: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism.

What disturbs is that most Americans who profess themselves Christ followers disbelieve the pronouncement of Jesus: “I am the way the truth, and the life. No one comes through the Father except through me.”

According to a 2014 “Religious Landscape Report” by Pew Research Center, two-thirds of avowed Christians are theological pluralists. They reject the idea that Christ alone is the way to salvation. They believe that “many religions can lead to eternal life.”

Including Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism and the other 4,300 or so religions practiced around the world.

Christians who subscribe to theological pluralism believe that whether a person attains eternal life is based not so much on whether he or she accepts the teachings of the Gospel but on that person’s beliefs and actions.

So, based on that dubious doctrine, one need not believe in the divinity of Christ to be saved; only that he was a noteworthy, entirely human prophet and teacher. And one need not be born again to go to heaven, so long as they perform good works.

Well, let no one deceive themselves by thinking they can secure their salvation by acknowledging Christ while at the same time disbelieving that only through Jesus may any of us be saved.

Indeed, Philippians 2:9 declares that God has given Jesus “the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow…and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord….”

As to the notion that, as long as one has a track record of good works, he or she can earn their way into heaven without need of Jesus, they would do well to read Isaiah 64:6

“It admonishes, all of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like wind our sins sweep us away.”

That is why the importance of this day Resurrection Sunday, cannot be understated. Because, had Jesus not gone to the cross in propitiation for the sins of all, everyone, be condemned to eternal punishment for our sins.

But as the most off-quoted scripture in the Bible proclaims, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”

Jesus came to earth, He said, “to give His life a ransom for many.” And while some Christians in name only espouse the fake doctrine of theological pluralism, faithful Christ followers know that there is no other name under heaven given by which we must be saved than that of Jesus Christ.”

Of Americans raised Muslim who renounced Islam in 2017, more than 20 percent converted to Christianity. Also in 2017, an estimated 50,000 Hindus in Nepal gave their lives to Jesus. And in 2016, more than 200,000 Tibetan Buddhists became Christ followers.

Yes, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and other religions represented in heaven. But the representatives will be those who wisely converted to Christianity.
