[Catholic Caucus] Pope Francis: Clericalism Began with the Apostles

ROME — Christians must embrace the “imbalance” of the gospel rather than trying to put everything in order, Pope Francis said Thursday, which leads to a “dictatorship of functionalism.”

It is an error to try to “fix” things and impose order on the world or the Church, the pope told participants in a diocesan assembly in Rome, adding that it is a “temptation” to think we can “reorganize the city, reorganize the diocese, put everything in order.”

Having everything in order converts the Church into a “museum,” Francis said, which would mean “taming things, taming young people, taming people’s hearts, taming families” and making everything “perfect.”

The apostles did not get this, Francis suggested, because they had fallen into the clericalism of right thinking and a desire for order and balance.

“We need the Holy Spirit,” he (Pope Francis) continued, “and the Holy Spirit gives the table a kick, knocks it over and starts over from scratch,” he said.

As ever, Pope Francis addresses important matters with obscure, even incoherent ramblings.

Perhaps he believes that sounding obscure and abstract he comes off as philosophical.

Whatever the intent, he sounds illogical and scattered

The chosen Apostles of Christ, “did not gets this”. But rest easy, Francis gets it.

I feel so relieved now...Have Mercy Lord, send us another JPII or Benedict.

He is an Argentine and, I would suggest, a failed creative writer.

Or....maybe he’s stupid and heretical. I don’t think he’s ever believed a darn bit of the Faith. It’s been a vehicle for him.

I read that they are having a big event someplace in Italy that bears the name “The Economy of Francis.” The guy thinks he’s a freaking guru of the New World Order - well, the Socialist part of it, at any rate. He has no knowledge of or interest in the Faith, and he can’t be kicked out soon enough.

The only question is who will bell the cat. Several have tried, but the cat ignores it and then the mice are too terrified even to run away.

It is said that Francis is a Peronist at his core, or at least that is how he seems to exercise power, with his bromides against clericalism being a smokescreen.

when i read (or watched) Popes JP2 or Benedict, I felt better....as different in style and emphasis as they were...
1. it was mostly understandable, and
2. I didn’t leave feeling they might be working for someone other than our Creator

What’s the best deal in the world?

To buy an Argentinian for what he’s worth and sell him for what he thinks he’s worth. (This is a joke from Spain, btw.)

The headline does read like something from The Onion (or the Babylonian Bee) but it is pretty close to what he said, though the context covers a little tiny bit more.

The following paragraph was also of interest:

The pope says he knows of a diocese that has more employees than the Vatican, and “that diocese is getting further away from Jesus Christ because it worships ‘harmony,’ harmony not of beauty, but of functionalist worldliness.”

My guess would be that he is referring to NY, LA, or Chicago which employ many more teachers and have a much larger educational and Catholic health system than the Vatican, with offsets their relative lack of clerics attracted to the colour of Lavender and power living off of money sent in from other parts of the world.

Cologne is the richest diocese, but I doubt that it has the same number of employees.
