Some annual conferences gained traditionalist delegates, while others lost traditionalists. At this point, the traditionalist delegate count is down 15 percent from the St. Louis General Conference. That still leaves enough traditionalist U.S. delegates to assure a majority. This calculation is based on the reporting of reliable analysts in each annual conference. It also takes into account the possibility of up to 10 percent of the central conference delegates being unable to participate due to inability to obtain a visa. Should all the central conference delegates be able to attend General Conference, the traditionalist margin would be even larger.
In other word split the UMC up. Sooner rather than later.
It does not matter the left will ignore the rules.
Won’t matter, I think. I expect the denomination to split. But, you could be right about a jerk or two that goes with the traditionalists and then starts the entire homosexuality chaos all over again. Although this time there will be rules to remove them from the denomination.
But conservatives fight back.
I expect it will be sooner.
The sticky issues will be pensions, health care, funds in various accounts, and denominational properties: camps, publishing houses/stores, offices, etc.
Celebrating traditional Methodistsim
Back to the basics
It stuns me to think that we are seeing mainstream Christian denominations torn apart over homosexuality.
I never thought homosexuality would be such a big religious issue.
Are homosexuals clamoring to become members of the Methodist Church if only the Methodist church becomes liberal on homosexuality? What’s really going on here?
The Bishops and liberal leaders spent 5 years trying to ensure the One Church Plan passed. They used all their influence leading up to this Special General Conference to resolve the issues once and for all. BUT, like Hillary, they failed to prevail despite all the advantages they built into the process.
Now they want annual do-overs, exactly the situation the Special General Conference was designed to prevent. Liberals, Gee!
UMC has already departed from Scripture by allowing women pastors. It’s just a matter of time before they drift away even further.
I think the arguments are in your favor for the most part.
However, I still don’t think that “should be the husband of one wife” is limiting the ministry to married people. I think it is talking about the number of wives.
Agree...but the leadership is male, and if married, one wife.
I see no evidence of conservatives fighting back. The left will continue until the UMC splits.
This probable split has come about because over many decades God has used the conservative Good News group to fight back.
Ping
congratulations (if I am reading this correctly)
You are.
The left will try again in 2024.
And in 2028...
The strategy they used successfully in the Presbyterian Church USA, The Episcopal Church, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has been to wear down and outlast the orthodox.
