Back when Mr. Reagan was President, I read quite a bit of the material that Wallis & Sojourners were putting out. After a while, it struck me that it was comparable to a Marxist banana sundae (a scoop of "liberation theology", a scoop of "feminist theology", a scoop of "progressive-talking-point-of-the-week theology", etc.), with a little bitty Jesus cherry stuck on top, just for appearances. I'm not sure that his approach has changed much, over the last 35 years...
The antithesis of Wallis’ book is a book written many years ago by Ronald Nash called SOCIAL JUSTICE AND THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH.
Though it was written many years ago its lessons are most poignant and coming to fruition today.
Also Wallis is a person who is far left in ideology and denies the sufficiency of scripture.
Some excerpts from the linked article below:
“But exchange can also take place by means of force and violence. In this violent means of exchange, the basic rule of thumb is: Unless you do something good for me, Ill do something bad to you. This turns out to be the controlling principle of socialism. Socialism means far more than centralized control of the economic process. It entails the introduction of coercion into economic exchange in order to facilitate the attainment of the goals of the elite who function as the central planners. One of the great ironies of Christian socialism is that its proponents in effect demand that the State get out its weapons and force people to fulfill the demands of Christian love. Even if we fail to notice any other contrast between capitalism and socialism, we already have a major difference to relate to the biblical ethic. One system stresses voluntary and peaceful exchange while the other depends on coercion and violence.”
This second excerpt from the article would really describe Wallis and his position. Its a little long but well worth the read to explain Wallis’, and the lefts, heretical positions.
“Likewise, many Christians on the Left seek to reinterpret Jesus earthly mission in exclusively economic and political terms. In their view, Jesus came primarily to deliver those who were poor and oppressed in a material sense. But every member of the human race is poor in the sense of being spiritually bankrupt. Jesus came to end our spiritual poverty by making available the righteousness that God demands and that only God can provide.
It is heresy to state that Gods love for people varies in proportion to their wealth and social class. It is nonsense to suggest that all the poor are good and all the rich are evil. Once we eliminate the semantic game-playing by which some refer to a non-coercive voluntary utopian type of socialism, it becomes clear that socialism is incompatible with a truly free society. Edmund Opitz has seen this clearly:
As Historys vice-regent, the Planner is forced to view men as mass; which is to deny their full stature as persons with rights endowed by the Creator, gifted with free will, possessing the capacity to order their own lives in terms of their convictions. The man who has the authority and the power to put the masses through their paces, and to punish nonconformists, must be ruthless enough to sacrifice a person to a principle a commissar who believes that each person is a child of God will eventually yield to a commissar whose ideology is consonant with the demands of his job.
And so, Opitz concludes, Socialism needs a secular religion to sanction its authoritarian politics, and it replaces the traditional moral order by a code which subordinates the individual to the collective. All of this is justified in the cause of improving economic well-being and in the name of compassion.”

“Progressive”(another word for Communist), is before “Christian”, tells you all you need to know about him.
RE: Progressive(another word for Communist), is before Christian, tells you all you need to know about him.
Or maybe in Wallis’ mind, Christians have to be progressive to be true followers of Christ.
But, I bet this fraud thinks its okay to support Democrats for President that favor abortion until birth and will put judges on courts that will away religious freedom.
Oh yeah? Watch me.
Fudgepacker needle spiking.
Nope. You either serve Christ, or you serve the founder of "progressivism", Satan. You cannot serve both.
Richard Libertini Jesus ?
The era of the fake Christians:the “christian” left.
Bingo. They are absolute evil. They serve Satan.
Wallis is about as “Christian” as Jim Jones.
This idiot will have to answer to God one day. God is not happy.......
Jim Wallis needs to stop supporting the baby-killing, evil, hateful, fascist, dicknipple spoogemonkeys that protected and preserved slavery for 30 years. The DemoKKKrat Party.
It was formed in evil. Jesus said “No good fruit can come from a bad tree.” The DemoKKKrats are the WORST of a bad tree.
The left wants to change Christianity to Marxism. Wallace is a Marxist. He is one of the false teachers Jesus warned us about.
Plain and simple as far as faith in Jesus goes in politics there is only one issue
Do you believe in the sanctity of life from the moment of conception or not?
I’ve talked with Jim Wallis on a couple of occasions and, being from the evangelical community myself (Seminary and all), have known about him (and Sojourners) for over 40 years.
In person he’s a genteel, engaging man. But theologically and politically I disagree with him completely. In all the years at a distance and in person I’ve never quite discerned his underlying MO. He talks with conviction as though his leftist views are genuine ... but I’ve waited to see an expose about something else. Certainly the love of Manna and fame come to mind but I am speculating about his heart.
At any rate he told me a fascinating story about his first encounter with Billy Graham. Here it is in digital form from when he included it in a tribute to BG on his 93rd Birthday: https://sojo.net/articles/jim-wallis-billy-graham-his-93rd-birthday-thank-you
Side bar: don’t we miss Billy Graham today? Dear God, please send a 2019 version of Billy to help awaken our declining faith and culture.
I’m Jewish, but I’m going to comment anyway.
Anyone who calls themselves a Christian who thinks that pulling support from the clearly imperfect leaders of the Republican Party in this country, in the hope that such an action will somehow make this country more moral, is deluded. All that this will do (and did - as we saw in 2012 when Evangelicals refused in large numbers to vote for Mormon Romney) is throw national elections to the Democrat Party. The Democrats are not in any way the friend of the Evangelicals, and it is getting worse. By the standards of both Judaism and Christianity, the Democrat Party is moving - as quickly as it can - in the direction of pure evil.
All that is required for Evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.
These people (that is, those with similar views to Wallis regarding politics and religion) don’t understand that politics is not theology, that they aren’t voting for a spiritual leader, but a political leader who must sometimes make very tough choices purely on the grounds of power politics. They simply don’t understand that politics is, by its very nature, a business that appeals to people interested in power over others (i.e. those who covet their neighbor’s property, etc.), people who are willing to lie (there’s another Commandment), cheat (and another), steal (and another) and even murder (and yet another one) in order to obtain, maintain or grow their power. The trick is to pick the least bad, but still effective, person and political party in any given election.
Jesus is not running for President.
