Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 85

Psalm 85[a]

For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.

1 You, Lord, showed favor to your land;
    you restored the fortunes of Jacob.
2 You forgave the iniquity of your people
    and covered all their sins.[b]
3 You set aside all your wrath
    and turned from your fierce anger.

4 Restore us again, God our Savior,
    and put away your displeasure toward us.
5 Will you be angry with us forever?
    Will you prolong your anger through all generations?
6 Will you not revive us again,
    that your people may rejoice in you?
7 Show us your unfailing love, Lord,
    and grant us your salvation.

8 I will listen to what God the Lord says;
    he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants—
    but let them not turn to folly.
9 Surely his salvation is near those who fear him,
    that his glory may dwell in our land.

10 Love and faithfulness meet together;
    righteousness and peace kiss each other.
11 Faithfulness springs forth from the earth,
    and righteousness looks down from heaven.
12 The Lord will indeed give what is good,
    and our land will yield its harvest.
13 Righteousness goes before him
    and prepares the way for his steps.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father,
Who Art in Heaven,
How Blessed,
How Glorious,
How Wonderful,
Is Your Most Holy Name!
How Mighty and Perfect is Your Word,
And Your Promise,
Which You have allowed us a glimpse
into Your Perfect Will!
You, The Everlasting,
The Omnipotent,
The Immortal and Eternal,
Not Bound By Time or Space,
because You Created it,
Your Ways are not our ways,
And yet we hunger and thirst for You,
like a thirsty little deer panting in the forest,
seeking a bubbling spring for a fresh sip of water!

Almighty and Everlasting Father,
what a Blessing it is
to know the TRUTH,
And Read it Confirmed in Your Word.
How Blessed We Are To Have A Heavenly Father!
Who Forgives our sin,
and provides the Way To Forgiveness!
LORD, Thank You for giving us the example of David,
Who, when he kept silent,
only got more depressed about his sin.
But When he opened up his heart to You, Abba,
and ran to You, Dear Father,
and Acknowledged his sin before You,
What Blessings
and Showers Of Forgiveness came forth!

Thank You, Abba Father,
For Being Our Hiding Place,
Our Deliverer,
Our Rock,
and Our Redeemer!
Fill Our Days With Songs Of Deliverance,
For Ourselves,
Our Families,
Our Nation, and For Your People Israel!

For the Sake of Your Anointed,
and For The Sake of Your Name,
We pray for the Peace of Jerusalem,
For Israel,
According to Your Word,
and Your Promise.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Something rather awkward happened on the Game Show JEOPARDY! the other night. A contestant, when asked in what country the Church of the Nativity was located, she confidently answered "What is PALESTINE?" She was ruled incorrect, and the correct answer "What is ISRAEL?" earned her opponent $200. Now, it is being observed by several people, that, after the commercial break, her score was changed to show a $200 increase, without decreasing the total of her opponent. Then, in a move unprecedented in JEOPARDY! history, there was NO comment about the score change. They just went along HOPING nobody would notice.

This brings up a huge issue in our culture regarding the compromising of Truth for the sake of "Political Correctness". I've been to Bethlehem. It is in Israel. At this time, there are walls and checkpoints, and Bethlehem is in the jurisdiction of the "Palestinian Authority", but the COUNTRY is Israel. "Palestine" is not a separate country. The judges on the show knew this in their hearts, but they threw the $200 at the contestant hoping that would end the story. But we NOTICED. A $200 cover-up is not going to change the fact that Israel is an internationally recognized Nation, with a government, a legislative body, currency, borders, and language, and "Palestine" is not.

Today's Psalm is a Psalm that celebrates Truth, Righteousness, and Faithfulness. The last stanza uses the literary tool of Personification to apply attributes to these concepts, making them intimate lovers. You can't have one without the other, as the song says.

The Psalm is in two equal parts, with this chiastic structure:

3 line stanza
4 line stanza,
3 line stanza
4 line stanza

The lines in the first half correspond with the matching line in the second half. It is quite elegant, and celebrates TRUTH.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
