I hate to interject biology into such a discussion, but God works in mysterious ways. When he created people in his image they are not all XX or XY chromosome folks. That is unless you believe that God does make mistakes.

Gender is an invented term stolen from linguistics that basically adds ‘and whatever your imagination thinks’ to the definition of sex. Sex is the older more precise and more appropriate term.
