Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
In a movie called "The Great Race" which I have quoted before on this Thread, the bad guy (Professor Fate), played by Jack Lemmon, has his henchman sabotage all the competing cars in an auto race, in order to be the winner. Max, the henchman does so and proudly announces:
"Car Number Five, the Engine will fall out!"
To which Professor Fate replies:
"Max, you idiot! WE'RE Car Number Five!!!"
And then, of course, the engine falls out of the car.
It is a perfect illustration of the Biblical Principle expressed in both Psalms and Proverbs: Whosoever digs the pit, shall fall into it. And so, both David and Solomon were well aware of this spiritual law.
During the quarantine, I amused myself by riding my motorcycle. Gas was cheap, the roads were empty, and the weather has been beautiful. It was easy to ride over 100 miles in one sunny afternoon, down through Cranberry Country, Buzzards Bay, Cape Cod, and so on. All the time on the road, I had the opportunity to pray (without closing my eyes, of course!), and riding alone with God developed into a form of Therapy, Recreation, Spirituality, and (you-should-pardon-the-expression) FUN. Yes. It's OK to have FUN.
Well, you remember in a previous post, I told you about the squeak? Well, we found out what it was. A motor-mount had rotted away. So the squeak wasn't from the clutch at all but was the engine rubbing against the frame. I also need new tires. One even had a nail embedded in it! Along with the gaskets on the rocker-box which was spraying oil all over my shoes, and a general replacement of all the cables and hoses, fixing up Blue is going to cost more than an entire month's income. Thank God I have good credit.
It is by the total grace of Almighty God that "The engine didn't fall out"somewhere in the wilds of Wareham.
Solomon amassed a fortune unprecedented in History up till that time. He had mines, forests, horses, cities, wives, lovers, gold, jewels, wisdom, knowledge, and the respect of the entire world. And yet, in his old age, he penned one of the most depressing Books in the Bible. Some people question why God allowed it to even be canonized! Of course, if you read the whole thing up to the last line, you will see why. Like my Antique Motorcycle, Solomon's life gets put up on the lift, and the EXPERT MECHANIC checks it out from stem to stern. He reveals all the hidden secrets that were causing the squeaks. He finds all the bald spots and nails in the tires. The rottenness and decay of sin is exposed and eliminated. The secrets are revealed. In the end, Trust in God. And so, both Solomon and "Blue" live on!
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)
