Death Knell for Illinois [Catholic] Churches?

Cupich's reopening plan involves surveillance

CHICAGO (ChurchMilitant.com) - Cardinal Blase J. Cupich's litigious multi-phase "reopening" plan for Illinois Churches is raising alarm among many faithful who see it as a political power grab and not a move to satisfy their hunger for the sacraments.

Referred to simply as "the Plan," it requires, among other things, that individual churchgoers be contact traced for COVID-19 and that individual parishes undergo a multi-step certification before being able to proceed with the overall reopening process.

All Illinois bishops approved the Plan, which was unveiled on May 13 in English, Spanish and Polish on the Chicago archdiocese website and on Facebook. A definite date for when Holy Mass will be reinstated has not been given.

The Plan was created by Cupich in consultation with state Illinois governor Jay Robert "J.B." Pritzker, the Chicago Department of Public Health and other civic leaders. The state, along with health care professionals and bureaucrats, will "review" the Plan "at each stage with an eye to making adjustments in accord with new data," according to the executive summary.

In a letter posted on the archdiocese's website, the cardinal assured the faithful of his good intentions saying, "[T]here have been moments in history when governments and rulers have persecuted Christians and banned their public worship," emphasizing, "This is not one of them."

Calling for compliance, he said, "While everyone must exercise good citizenship in observing these restrictions, I call on the Catholic faithful, as advocates for justice and charity, to comply with these regulations."

When are we going to start acting like the left?

When do we tell the leftists to shove it, or else.

When do we take what they give us, multiply it x10 and return it?

Either we do that, or we may just as well bend over and assume the Dorkbama position.

Really.

I think not. Cupich is Latin Rite.

Cupich’s dioceses?
Is it a reopening
...or more of a coming-out.

Whatever happened to ' free agency', and 'choice'?

I was always taught :
"Render unto Caesar (the State) that which is Caesar's,
and render unto the Lord, that which is the Lord's "

At what point did the State behavior become compulsive to religious practice ?

The church should have been out in the streets performing mass. Let the marxists arrest every priest.

They should have also excommunicated all the anti-church pro-abortion politicians. No funerals, no mass and no weddings.

But they didn’t. They stand for nothing.

The interdict on sacraments has finally been lifted here in Massachusetts. Despite the silly restrictions on numbers, masking and spacing, I’m glad to be able to go to church again. It sounds like it is much worse in Illinois.

“Referred to simply as “the Plan,” it requires, among other things, that individual churchgoers be contact traced for COVID-19 and that individual parishes undergo a multi-step certification before being able to proceed with the overall reopening process.“

Mind you, these restrictions, complete with mandatory “contact tracing,” were put in place by Cupich, not even by the hostile state.

Someone recounted getting on the line to go to confession in her church when it reopened (don’t recall the state) and the parish Karens were standing there with contact tracing forms that everybody was supposed to fill out if they wanted the sacraments. She decided to go to confession elsewhere.

OMG!!! Only 10 people for a Catholic funeral or wedding. With a wedding there are usually 2 sets of parents, 4 people, plus the bride and room, another 2, plus assorted relatives and friends, usually quire a lot. It’s an abomination.

My apologies for stating the obvious, but the reason they stand for nothing is because they are CINOs, Catholics in name only. They posture themselves as Catholics but are not, and neither are any of the clergy in their dioceses.
