My mom told the story of flour pudding during the depression.
Flour, water and a little nutmeg and sugar. Said they had many a meal of that and that is all they had. Till the garden was ready and the apple trees, plum trees and pear trees.
There wasnt a rabbit, or anything around to be had. Even ate the RATS!
My Great Grandpa was said to have hunted the last Yellowstone elk in PA during the depression. I am guessing they ate good that year. My cousin still has the antlers.
I heard similar stories from my mom. She used to make tapioca pudding with that recipe. Always knew what plant was edible.
My Grandpa used to work in NYC left at the beginning of the the depression and sold apples and cherries from his families farm.
Dad was a city boy, different stories. Hard times all around.
