ROME, Oct. 29—Three of the most influential Roman Catholic prelates called today for an urgent and searching re‐examination of the church's teachings on marriage and birth control. Convergent views on this vital issue expressed at the Ecumenical Council by Paul Emile Cardinal Leger of Montreal, Leo Jozef Cardinal Suenens of Mechlin‐Brussels and his Beatitude Maximos IV Saigh, Melchite Patriarch of Antioch, won prolonged loud applause from the more than 2,000 prelates attending today's session.
