Margie Zacharias has broken her silence to defend her late husband, the apologist Ravi Zacharias, from sexual and spiritual abuse findings which caused Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM) to reorganise.
"There is absolutely no way that Ravi is guilty as charged, convicted, cancelled and executed, some even going so far as to claim that he never knew the Lord," Margie wrote in an email to her friends.
"It is not because I am in denial. It is because I knew him and because there is absolutely no evidence to support anything contrary," she continued.
Earlier this year, the findings of an investigation commissioned by RZIM and carried out by law firm Miller & Martin, confirmed that Ravi Zacharias engaged in "sexting, unwanted touching, spiritual abuse, and rape". The report revealed harrowing testimonies of several female spa workers that Ravi Zacharias had abused.
However, since the release of the report Margie had stayed silent and only their son Nathan Zacharias had spoken out defending Ravi.
"He could never have kept a secret like they are alleging (alleging, I say, as there is not one whit of evidence to support what they are saying). At the very least, with all the medication he was on at the end and his hallucinations something would have come out if something were there," the email continued.
According to Joy Reports, the email was originally posted in a private Facebook group called "Friends who like Ravi Zacharias" that has more than 30,000 members. However, Nathan Zacharias, explained on Instagram that his mum had asked him to publish the email on his blog 'Defending Ravi', so they "can ensure the content remains accurate".
In her email, Margie Zacharias explains how she started going through Ravi's belongings as she was given 90 days by RZIM to leave their house and "wanted to be certain that nothing was left of Ravi that anyone could take and twist and create a story to use against him".
She went on to describe how she found receipts dating back to 1980s, money, pain medications, watches and photographs. She also found cards that therapists had sent "thanking him for the blessing he was to them, for his encouragement to them, for leading them into a deeper walk with the Lord or being instrumental in bringing them to the Lord".
Margie explained she also "found the bag of crosses he gave to every therapist who helped him and which have been used against him, called expensive gifts used to bribe or "groom"…I'm not even sure what that is" and added that she and her children also have one as Ravi used them to "open a conversation about the Lord" and "were not intended to convey a special or romantic interest."
After listing all she had found, she said: "All of this is to tell you what I did not find: no suspicious financial documents, no financial or real estate arrangements that I did not know about. No investments that I was not aware of. No suspicious letters or cards of a romantic nature from anyone but me.
"In short, I want you, his family, to know beyond a shadow of doubt that I found not one suspicious receipt, letter, card, expenditure…absolutely nothing to support the claims being made or the charges against him." She concluded her email affirming her confidence on her husband's innocence.
"I have written this because I feel it is important that you, his family, know what I know, know what I have found and not found, so that you may have confidence to continue to love and respect the man you knew, and that you may know that he was the man you knew."
"With much love, and confidence in Ravi and in the God he knew and loved and served, Margie."
Reacting to the email, Lori Anne Thompson, one of Ravi's victims, posted on Twitter: "I want you to know that while I am grieved by the contents of the letter, I have no direct comment to offer. It is too costly to my whole frame and family to engage in public defence of the utterly indefensible".
His text messages say otherwise.
I hope she is right. His ministry meant a lot to me.
RE: His text messages say otherwise.
Was his phone hacked?
did you actually see the texts?
I have yet to see any evidence of his wrongdoing. The only thing I’ve seen are accusations and denouncements from a myriad of characters that seem to have their own agendas.
thank you Margie, you’re a good wife. you’re so right to defend your man, whom you knew best besides the Lord, because he’s never been in a position to defend himself from any of this. it’s the easiest for the enemy when they set you up and smear you after you pass on.
oh and just to confirm my original post from last dec when this broke, i have never believed a word of any of this setup and smear of a good Christian man.
You are welcome to your rose colored glasses, but even the organization thinks he is guilty.
Well I don’t care who ‘says’ he’s guilty...if he is then they are obligated to prove it.
They already did.
It’s not right to smear a man after he is dead.
It is not right to sin and not apologize.
exactly.
especially for a Christian, who should know that Ravi has already given account to the Lord. and there is absolutely no good reason for us second guess the Lord’s judgement at this point, and that it would be best to just shut our mouths in collective Christian humility and let the world crow and gossip to it’s black heart’s content.
Tearing down pillars of society for personal gain and political agendas. Disgusting.
Ravi was a GREAT MAN due to the Lord’s blessing.
We do not have the benefit of Ravi's side. All of this is suspect imho due to the fact that the accusations didn't come out until after he died, with the exception of the one gal who made a crap youtube declaring the Ravi ruined her life. There was some money she finally succeeded in obtaining. It's late so I'm fuzzy on the details but remember distinctly that there was a legitimate reason provided.
The report is suspect. Witnesses are not and will not be named. Why? In this country the accused has a right to face their accuser. oops, not possible because he's dead. There is a gap (per report)in the phone records; conveniently it was when Thompson's so called contact with him took place.
I remember when Kavanaugh (sp) was nominated; I remember the 'landslide' of accusers coming out of the woodwork. Funny how it ended up that there was no credible evidence ever produced.
For me, it takes more than unnamed witnesses, and vague reports declaring that 'they' confirmed the accusations. I'm not convinced either way but I'm not going to denigrate Ravi Zacharias as a result of published hearsay. As far as Christianity Today, it is my understanding they lean left so far me, they hold no credibility.
The 'mob' surfaced immediately upon the accusations. Rabid individuals from the evangelical community pontificating on his guilt upon hearing 'accusations' because you know, every woman must be believed. All the denouncements were made by self serving evangelicals. Again, imho.
I’d bet Tim Tebow was crushed, too...the interview with them was very meaningful...when I heard about this, it hit me, too. Tim really loved him like a brother.
What I’ve had a hard time reconciling is how can a man who spoke so powerfully for and about God have a completely opposite dark side? His organization did an investigation and they’ve concluded he was guilty. I read what they wrote about it, but at this point still haven’t seen any of the evidence, just what they and others have said.
If his phone was full of text messages and pictures, I hope his wife can have them thoroughly checked. Are they legitimate? When were they sent/downloaded? As of now she is defending her husband and his memory. Maybe she doesn’t really want to know? No matter the truth, we know humans can and do often fail, but God will never fail.
It’s just sad. Whether he had this other side or folks are denouncing on flimsy evidence, it just rips my heart out.
We all battle and struggle with something. God is merciful though. Jesus came in the flesh and experienced everything we experience, but remained sinless, so that He could sympathize with all our struggles with this sinful world, our flesh and the attacks of the evil one.
I pray it’s all not true.
His own church hired a law firm and investigators to figure this out after he died and all these suits came forth...
Their conclusion was guilty
