Padre Pio Versus Amoris Laetitia Church
Lea Padovani was a famous and beautiful Italian film actress. Born in 1920 – the same year as John Paul II – she appeared in 60 films between 1945 and 1990. Padovani was in love with a married man she was living with. The actress was abroad on film-making business when she learned that her illegitimate partner had been diagnosed with an extremely serious malignant tumour. He was given only six months to live. Padovani bagan to despair. She took the man to many doctors, even abroad, but the terrible diagnosis was confirmed.

Together with her companion she went to visit him in San Giovanni Rotondo, and tried to be received by the friar, but at first, she didn’t succeed. When she finally met with Padre Pio, he rejected her because he knew that she was living in sin with a married man, and that she only wanted her concubine physically healed without bothering to respect God's law. He made her understand that she had to leave the man.
The actress was deeply impressed. Over the next few days, she felt an inner strength that led her to make a promise to the Lord. She asked for her lover to be cured. In return she would leave him. After a few days, the man began to feel better. At a follow-up visit, the doctors were surprised to find that he had made a complete and inexplicable recovery. Padovani realised that her request had been granted and she kept her promise. She left the man and then went to Padre Pio. She realised that the prayers of the holy friar had been behind her gesture and decided to become his spiritual daughter and to change her life.
The man who had benefited from the healing did not understand what had happened and got involved with another woman. In short, this miracle had been the occasion for Lea Padovani's salvation and perhaps for the man's damnation.
