Dublin, Ireland, Jan 4, 2022 / 12:00 pm (CNA). Ireland is preparing to follow France in offering free contraception to women under 25 years of age.
The French government introduced the measure on Jan. 1, while the Irish authorities have promised to make contraception free for women aged between 17 and 25 years from August.
French officials said that the change would apply to three million young women out of a population of 67.4 million people. Contraception is already free for minors (under 18s).
Along with Sweden, France has the highest total fertility rate of the 27 member states of the European Union, with 1.84 live births per woman, which is below replacement level.
Contraception was legalized in the country in 1967, followed by abortion in 1975. There are around 200,000 abortions a year.
Pascale Morinière, president of the Confédération nationale des Associations Familiales Catholiques (CNAFC), said that the government believed that free contraception would reduce the number of abortions among women under 25.
She explained that officials pointed to a precedent when free contraception was offered to girls aged between 15 and 18 years in 2013. The abortion rate fell within this age group from 9.5 to 6 per 1,000 from 2012 to 2018.

It’s important that young women have a say in what happens during their lives, but how ironic Ireland and France want more birth control. Aren’t both countries already suffering the effects of very low birth rates? Italy as well.
Free contraception instead of murdering babies? Yes!
Controlling oneself would be better but it isn’t like that’s going to happen these days.
Human life begins at conception. Many of the most commonly prescribed oral contraceptives are also abortifacients so human beings are still being killed.
It’s sad that 1.84 is the highest there. They want it even lower.
And the muzzies will reproduce like rabbits and these countries will lose their native population and culture. Gone for good, especially after the jihadists get done destroying all the cultural artifacts, as they have where ever they take over.
Things are changing there. I dated Irish girls years ago and told them about American women and abortion. When I told them about multiple convenience abortions and how some American women used it as a method of birth control they didn’t believe me. I might as well have been describing an alien abduction. They were all nurses.
Depraved. They should be encouraging motherhood.
Note to self: Go to Ireland, only date women 18-25.

Please NOTE that the article excerpt does not actually bother defining "contraception." Are they talking about free condoms, birth-control pills, IUDs, tubal ligation, or what?
I suspect that they define it as "any means - pharmaceutical, surgical, etc. - to prevent having to give birth."

That should be “free,” not free. Like “free” college and “free” health care, it’s not free.
