“you are full of crap”
The catholic church is full of crap. People that want to be “catholic” rather than Christian are blind to it.
“Same with Ashes on Ash Wednesday.”
You really got to laugh though at all those catholics in name only on TV with their foreheads marked in ash...while helping make certain that multitudes of innocent unborn continue to be murdered in the womb...
“this is not a sola scriptura thread”
Prov 30:6 “Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.”
“this is not a sola scriptura thread”
Matt 15:9 “And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.”
“this is not a sola scriptura thread”
Matt 15:6 “Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.”
“So, it’s something of an “in remembrance” like Communion?”
I would take issue with this in that the Bible does seem to make it clear that there is far more to “communion” than just a flippant wave of the hand such as you infer. Were it not so, then why the warning to those who do not rightly discern the bread(body) and the wine(blood) of Jesus Christ.
I believe that Communion is not “a ritual to be observed”, but a blessing to be received by believers. MUCH more to it than just “oh yea, Jesus died on the Cross”...
“holy water”
Since the Bible has ZERO reference to Christians using “holy water” for anything, that seems to fall into the “catholic made up stuff” category. But, water certainly does play its part in baptism of believers.
As for the ability of “blessed water” to allow a believer to “bless themselves with it” or “absolve us of our venial sins and protect us from the devil”, well, ONLY the Blood of Jesus on the Cross takes away sin of ANY kind and redeemed believers are already protected from the devil by the Spirit of God that dwells within them.
