Human nature is not prone to goodness.
The mentality that people are basically good and can be trusted to do the right thing is humanism.
Yes, people can do good things, but the human heart is not by nature good.
Luke 18:18-19 And a ruler asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.
His point is, that thinking you are good can keep you from seeing your need for God and turning to Him. IWO, you would not be inclined to think you need a Savior.
There are people like that out there.
