Excommunicate her and the priest that did it. Lack of internal discipline is why things have gotten to this state. I'm sure Cardinal Gregory will get right on that...

On the positive side, I'm heartened by the actions of Archbishop Cordileone. It's warming up the seats of several US bishops. Will Gregory acquiesce? Who knows.

My understanding:
Being barred from communion is not the same thing as excommunication from the Church.
Archbishop Cordileone only has jurisdiction in his archdiocese.
The priest giving her communion is not necessarily culpable for her soul. Besides, what makes you think it is a priest? Could just as easily been an extraordinary minister.

I don’t know what the SJ means Society of Jesus, it means the priest is a Jesuit.

Long ago I remember lay people, both men & women, were allowed to hand out the bread & wine after the priest blessed them. I don’t know if the Catholic church still does this, but that did cross my mind.
