The key is *which* populations might grow or shrink. Neither UN models nor this predict an even, steady status quo, and neither account for geopolitics and evil eugenicists.
The US has added 51 million to its population since 2000 and 130 million since 1970. We have a labor participation rate in the low 60% levels. We have a surplus of labor.

Depending on how fast AI improves, this may not be a problem at all.
Very soon we are going to need a whole lot less humans to get things done. Cars will drive themselves. Factories will make things automatically without humans. Crops can be planted and harvested without humans. Even wars will be fought without very many humans. Picture every house having its own robot servant. All public works tasks performed by automated equipment(road crews, trash removal, snow removal, etc). your house combined with the robot servant and smart appliances and self driving car will do everything for you…clean, cook, laundry, groceries, yard work, etc.
The economy will not crash and humans will not suffer if technology takes up the slack.
Well that’s one of th reasons why they’re shipping refugees and redistributing 3rd world populations into western countries. Western countries aren’t having babies to fill the population.
