Pope Francis: Jesus and the Buddha Understood Need to Overcome Egoism

Vatican City, Jun 17, 2022 / 08:38 am Pope Francis spoke about the teachings of Jesus and the Buddha during a meeting with a Buddhist delegation from Thailand on Friday.

“Sadly, on all sides, we hear the cry of a wounded humanity and a broken earth. The Buddha and Jesus understood the need to overcome the egoism that gives rise to conflict and violence,” the pope said at the Vatican on June 17.

He added: “The Dhammapada sums up the Buddha’s teachings thus: 'To avoid evil, to cultivate good, and to cleanse one’s mind — this is the teaching of the Buddha.’”

“Jesus told his disciples: ‘I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another,’” Francis said, quoting from John 13:34.

“Our task today,” he went on, “is to guide our respective followers to a more vivid sense of the truth that we are all brothers and sisters. It follows that we should work together to cultivate compassion and hospitality for all human beings, especially the poor and marginalized.”

Pope Francis’ encounter with the Thai delegation marked the 50th anniversary of a historic meeting between Pope Paul VI and the Most Venerable Somdej Phra Wannarat, the 17th Supreme Buddhist Patriarch of Thailand, on June 5, 1972.

Did the Pope forget that Jesus Christ is God?

This pope guy absolutely sickens me. He deserves the Hell he will get as a result of the wrath he is storing up for himself. To equate the false God Buddha with Jesus the Savior is utter blasphemy. He literally turns my stomach.

Why would the pope be insecure enough to need to cite icons from other beliefs? Pretty weak.

My Pope (John Paul II) wouldn't be even slightly interested in what “Buddha” thought...about anything.

Ego is a made up construct. It was Freud who coined it. It is not even Buddhist. It simply means being humble, which is lacking in Christians these days.

Francis is the exact sort of “Mystic of the Mind” Ayn Rand warned about.

There’s competition for the God role…Bergoglio believes it’s him.

This “Pope” is an imbecile.

He clearly is not a Christian, let alone a theologian. How can someone who is supposed to be the “head” of the church, know so little about scriptures. He just makes things up as he goes, trying to sound like an intellectual but is actually a very low bred Heretic.

Why does he mention Buddha in the same context as Christ? He obviously does not believe in the Apostles Creed (or The Nicene Creed).

“ we hear the cry of a wounded humanity and a broken earth”

But that is exactly what we expect, because the Bible says the earth shall pass away, and a new one will be created. Has his holiness not read it?
