In defiance of US bishops, Nancy Pelosi receives Communion at the Vatican

VATICAN CITY (RNS) — In defiance of some U.S. bishops, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi reportedly received Communion during a Mass presided over by Pope Francis on Wednesday (June 29) for the celebration of the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul.

Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone announced June 1 that the Catholic congresswoman is banned from receiving Communion in her home diocese of San Francisco due to her abortion rights stance. Since then, she has been barred from receiving the sacrament in four dioceses.

Pelosi called the recent pronouncement by the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade an “outrageous and heart-wrenching” decision. The U.S. Catholic bishops lauded the court’s decision, which they said overturned “an unjust law that has permitted some to decide whether others can live or die.”

Pelosi met with Francis on Wednesday before the service and received a blessing, according to one of the Mass attendees.

Maybe a Catholic can explain it to me but if the Pope is the intermediary between mankind and God then how can he be so blatantly obscene? I can see an argument that even a pope is a sinner, but you’d think the person in that position would be a better example of a man. It would make me have a lot of doubt as to the nature of Catholicism structurally and in the judgment of the cardinals that elected him.

I haven’t been to church in some years, but I can safely say that this pope is forgetting his station in life. I think he’s so full of himself that he truly is a narcissist.
And the GALL of The Two Pelosis to go to the Vatican and receive the Blessed Sacrament from him.
Birds of a feather.

What is means is that after centuries of Catholics telling Bible Christians in particular that they need to look to the pope and the RC "living magisterium" in order to assuredly know what is of God, both men and writings and their meaning and simply submit to it , rather than subjecting church teaching to the test of Scriptural warrant and conflation, then ever since Vatican Two traditional Catholic sects and schisms have arose which in essence act like the evangelicals that censure.

In that the judge the veracity and validity of modern RC teaching (in word and deed) based upon their interpretation of conformity with historical RC teaching (even though this attitude is contrary to what many popes required.

But distinctive Catholic teachings are not manifest in the only wholly God-inspired, substantive, authoritative record of what the NT church believed (which is Scripture, in particular Acts through Revelation, which best shows how the NT church understood the gospels)

The world 🌎 is getting stranger by the week; if not by the day.

Nonetheless, I am not surprised by either the pope-a-dope nor Pelosi.

I would expect nothing else from the two of them.

"Maybe a Catholic can explain it to me but if the Pope is the intermediary between mankind and God "

While Catholicism teaches that its (unscriptural) priesthood acts as a special mediator btwn man and God, it does not teach the the Pope is the intermediary between mankind and God (the Mary of Catholicism holds that supreme position, while what Scripture teaches is that their is one heavenly "mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." (1 Timothy 2:5)

"I can see an argument that even a pope is a sinner, but you’d think the person in that position would be a better example of a man."

TradCaths concur, but Catholicism does not teach that a pope is impeccable, and they admit many were far worse in morals than Francis. What Roman Catholicism teaches is that anyone who validly occupies the papal office possesses conditional infallibility: protection from error when expressly (some interpretation here) defining a matter of faith or morals for all the church. Ecumenical councils in union with the pope are also said to sometimes be infallible in speaking likewise.

Which promise of ensured perpetual magisterial infallibility is nowhere promised or seen in Scripture (including Caiaphas). But Rome presumed to infallibly declare she is and will be perpetually infallible whenever she speaks in accordance with her infallibly defined (scope and subject-based) formula, which renders her declaration that she is infallible, to be infallible, as well as all else she accordingly declares, and presumes protection at least non-salvific error in non-infallible magisterial teaching.

" It would make me have a lot of doubt as to the nature of Catholicism structurally and in the judgment of the cardinals that elected him"

While papal elections are not held as being infallible (and the only election of a apostolic successor was by the non-political Biblical means of casting lots) the fact that the College of Cardinals elected such a liberal testifies to the overall liberal leaning of Catholic hierarchy and much of the flock. As well as Bible scholarship.

I am not Catholic. I intend to speak with respect, please forgive me if I fall short in that.
As I understand their position, you must accept whatever “the Church” does. Furthermore, whatever they do is right because they are the ones doing it. When you say “blatantly obscene” you are using a standard of obscenity which is outside of them and therefore invalid.
What I am suggesting should sound very much like the Islamic god who can “abrogate” ad libitum. It is also very much like the doctrine, even among certain Protestants, that God cannot sin, because if He were to sin it would immediately not be sin because He is the One doing it.
Now ebbtide and others try to establish that there is some tradition to which even the Catholic Church is subject. Their arguments are interesting but invalid. Please see the excellent analysis by daniel1212 for a convincing refutation of that self-contradictory position.

She may fool herself but she can’t fool God.

/\

She’s not trying to fool anybody, she’s a bully, and she thinks she’s bullying God by giving Him the elbow like that little girl.

She beleives in nothing but her own divinity.

Alas, my hope that God would have allowed on his Solemnity St. Paul, who under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit wrote about the sacrilegious reception of Holy Communion in 1 Cor 11:26-31, appear and roar at Pelosi was frustrated. Alas, my hope that he, St. Paul, who once rebuked St. Peter to his face, would be allowed to appear and rebuke Pope Francis to his face was also frustrated.
