In his filing, Santa Cruz County Assistant District Attorney Michael Mahan argued the value of the painting’s replacement, based on testimony, should be set at nearly $89,000, a price tag including power washing, city permits, paint supplies, artists’ time and street closures

The “painting” is worth about as much as what I flushed down the toilet a couple of hours ago.

Public roads and areas are not some particular person’s private canvas. They don’t personally own the property and have violated ordinances and/or laws, its public space, no government voted and commissioned the work. No legal standing. No money.

It’s graffiti that needs to be removed.

The defacing of the first defacing, could also be considered a political artistic response to the initial defacement.
The second artist was simply moved to artistically respond to the first artists’ statement.

If only a lightning bolt would do us the favor of “defacing” it permanently, like in Toledo . . .

Oh, THAT “Mural”. Those giant yellow letters never did belong on a black asphalted street in the first place.
I seem to recall dozens of people, both black and white, throwing substances over that divisive ‘art’ as soon as it was put down.
Put it somewhere else. The middle of a busy street is not the right place and everybody knows it.
There must be a few Martin Luther King Blvd.s who would want it.

I wonder how much they’d value a cross put on public land.

I’ve seen streets with painted directions for motorists.
I would hate to think each straight or curved arrow cost $89,000.
I would be glad to spraypaint the houses of California Democrats with “BLM” if I’m in their town.

Bear in mind that YIELD has five letters and BLM only three.

If a street painting of Trump is vandalized will they assess the value?

"The privately funded Black Lives Matter painting initially was created in September 2020 in front of Santa Cruz City Hall as an effort by community volunteers, under the oversight and direction of local artists donating their time."
The citizens of Santa Cruz were not worthy of such an honor. The painting should have been done on the streets of San Francisco where it could have been adorned by the pelosi natives.

That paint makes the road surface more slick.
It is more dangerous than asphalt.
I am not surprised that those pickup trucks lost traction on that slippery surface.
They should be compensated for loss of tire rubber, and for fear induced by lack of safety on the slick street.
