Louisiana Bishops Conference Endorses Emergency Contraception in Cases of Rape

The Vatican has repeatedly condemned the moral evil of so-called emergency conception, which acts as an abortifacient.

BATON ROUGE (LifeSiteNews) – The Louisiana Conference of Catholic Bishops (LCCB) has come out in favor of emergency contraception for cases of rape, despite the abortifacient nature of the measure and the Vatican’s insistence that it is morally impermissible.

In recent comments to Louisiana newspaper The Advocate, Tom Costanza, executive director of the LCCB, which speaks on behalf the Louisiana Catholic bishops on matters of public policy, endorsed a new state law requiring hospitals to dispense emergency contraception to sexual assault victims.

Act 513, passed in anticipation of the reversal of Roe v. Wade and signed last month by Gov. John Bel Edwards, a professed Catholic, requires “all licensed hospitals in this state” to offer emergency contraception pills to rape victims on demand.

“The treating healthcare provider shall inform the victim of the option to be provided emergency contraception at the hospital or healthcare facility and, upon the completion of a pregnancy test yielding a negative result, shall provide emergency contraception upon the request of the victim,” the bill states.

According to The Advocate, Costanza said the language of the law “was reviewed by the church” and found to conform with directives issued by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USSCB).

“A female who has been raped should be able to defend herself against a potential conception from the sexual assault,” Costanza said, adding that “after appropriate testing, she can be treated with appropriate medication to prevent ovulation.”

Old figures said abortion rates due to saving the mother’s life due to health crisis: 2.0- 2.5% of annual abortion total.
Rape 1.5%
Incest 0.5%

Even one rape is too many but Catholic policy was to make adoption an alternative or counsel the mother to keep and raise the child.

In Michigan Gov.Whitmer is pushing executive order cutoff of financial aid to couples adopting babies, to all funding of counselling services to the pregnant women and to centers to have ultrasound and other needed items. She demands the center do abortions or be closed up. And that protections for people who refuse to participate in abortions due to their personal faith be abolished and the pleople forced to give up nursing certification or medical doctor licenses for disobeying. A cruel and bullying woman as governor (and she’s well ahead for re-election.

Hopefully this is just ignorance of and confusion about Church teaching. But entire bishops’ conferences dissented on Humanae Vitae. There’s so much worldliness in the Church. How much dissent there has been and remains on contraception even among Mass attendees. There will never be a true turnaround in civilization as long as the grave sin of contraception remains so widespread among Christians. Comfort and convenience come way before heroic virtue with most modern Christians.

And yet they keep up the myth that they’re the neutral Pro-Choice and not stridently Pro-Abortion.

Bishops and priests have been pretty much silent regarding contraception. At best it’s the lessor of two evils when the pill prevents conception but many socalled contraceptives are not preventing it but rather allowing it (a human life has begun) but preventing implantation (abortion at it’s earliest stage). Church going Catholics rub shoulders every Sunday with women who are and have been killing babies most of their fertile lives. It’s a truth 99% off these shepherds don’t dare promulgate. Those collection baskets might be the main reason. God will not be mocked.

Former Catholic Charities Employee Sentenced to Federal Prison for Theft
U.S. Attorney’s Office
February 26, 2009

Eastern District of Louisiana
(504) 680-3000
MARGARE SEGURA, a/k/a Margare Lewis, age 42, a resident of New Orleans, was sentenced yesterday in federal court by U. S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt to 20 months prison for her role in the conspiracy and theft related to a Catholic Charities homeless program, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Engelhardt ordered that SEGURA be placed on three (3) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should she violate any terms of her supervised release.

According to court documents on November 5, 2008, SEGURA pled guilty to three counts of a superseding indictment admitting that she and her sister, Lola Davis, conspired to steal Department of Housing and Urban Development funds granted to Catholic Charities for a program designed to assist homeless individuals with free housing and lifeskills training. According to the factual basis, SEGURA, the case manager for the Supportive Housing Program, qualified her sister as a landlord of units for individuals that were not homeless or otherwise did not qualify for assistance from the Supportive Housing Program. SEGURA qualified other individuals, including Deborah Knighten, as landlords of properties that they did not own or for tenants that never resided at the property. In addition to the conspiracy, SEGURA also admitted that as an agent of Catholic Charities, she stole at least $5,000 in federal program funds.

The third count against SEGURA to which she pled guilty was for false statements and representations to a government agency (FEMA) when she presented fraudulent receipts for rent she claimed she paid for a residence for three months following Hurricane Katrina.

The case was investigated by agents with the Department of Housing and Urban Development-Office of Inspector General, Department of Homeland Security–Office of Inspector General, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Emily Greenfield.

The federal money was distributed to Catholic Charities through UNITY of Greater New Orleans, a service provider for the homeless. From July 1, 2006, through June 30, 2007, Catholic Charities received $2.1 million in HUD Supportive Housing grants for the homeless, disabled, mentally ill and others with special housing needs, HUD records show. About $242,000 was specifically for housing needs of the homeless, Catholic Charities said. . .

These people think they can override Catholic teaching

When they get together they don’t refer to the catechism

What are they going by?

They don’t talk to former victims that’s for sure. Women have a voice but feminism and leftism shut them down. Actually rape victims say abortion makes it worse.

When you have loud mouth nominal Catholics like Sean hannity promoting such nonsense to massive audiences it becomes ingrained in the culture that it’s okay to kill a baby based on how it was conceived.

Yes. I have had a word with Hannity. He proclaims his own gospel without realizing Catholicism is not a democrat institution He is like many, leading non practicing Catholics along.

Here’s something many Catholics don’t consider- they are Catholics until they die and have that meeting. They don’t stop being Catholic when they decide on a Sunday to not attend mass. They have been catechized and they are judged at judgement time what they did with that knowledge.

Anyway anyone can google the catechism on any matter. I came across this from Catholic news agency a bioethicist talking about abortion in the case of rape:

“Encouraging a direct abortion never offers an authentic solution for a young woman facing a crisis,” Pacholczyk explained. “When a 10 year old girl becomes pregnant from rape, responding to her trauma by offering a second trauma makes no sense.”
“It exacerbates the original act of violence with yet more violence,” he said of abortion. “It plays off of the emotional vulnerability we all feel whenever tragedy strikes home.”
Pacholczyk pointed to a different solution for a victim facing a situation like this: love and support.
“What a young woman needs in such a situation is the support of family and friends, along with the reassurance that ‘we can get through this together,’” he said. “What she really needs is the love, hope and compassion that buoys up anyone facing uncertainty about her own future.”
Support, he said, can make all the difference.
“Young women who have had to walk this hard road, when supported generously by their families and friends, will often look back on what happened and express their relief that they were not offered the chance to destroy their own child following a sexual assault,” he said.
He referenced the recent story of Kathy Barnette, who….”

She is the Penn. senate candidate.

Unless he’s come back recently, Sean Hannity is an ex-Catholic.

People choose to listen to Hannity on Catholic matters. It’s a lot of trouble dressing for church (though I’ve seen some horrifying sights), tearing away from a very busy important Sunday morning to further silence the phone and be in the presence of God, contemplate that one does not have total control that there is a creator with the plan

It’s a mortal sin to not do this. Every Sunday.

People who listen instead to pop culture figures like hannity choose to ignore the true teaching of the church

It’s not difficult to follow. It’s difficult to stop with the anti Catholic lifestyle in order to follow.

They are led astray

Hannity refuses to stop, read, listen and contemplate what The church teaching is on abortion

He doesn’t even get that abortion in the case of rape comprises close to zero percent of all abortion

People would do well to shut out the media and take it on their own terms.
