A friend of mine had a different experience. He said the board worked. He was a skeptic and his wife and friends thought it would be a fun thing to try. The planchette(?) moved on its own and spelled out words. They got scared and put it up and never got it out again. He swore he'd never touch one again.
Played with a Quija board as a kid at my Grandparents’ house. It worked. Hope they burnt the thing.
This was before people knew what it was, other than a parlor game.
