An elder at a California megachurch and her father have been charged with the murder and torture of her adopted 11-year-old daughter, whose adoptive father also killed himself in front of the cops on the day that she died.
Leticia McCormack, 49, and her father Stanley Tom pleaded not guilty to the charges Wednesday in Superior Court of California in the San Diego suburb of El Cajon.
Stanley's wife Adella Tom - who faces abuse charges - also pleaded not guilty.
Brian McCormack, Leticia's husband and a CBP agent, killed himself in front of police before he could be charged.
Prosecutors say McCormack and her parents abused and tortured the girl and her two younger siblings, ages 6 and 7, for about five and a half years, leading up to the death of the 11-year-old identified as Arabella, according to the complaint.
In addition to charges of abuse and torture, McCormack and her father face an additional charge of murder.
If convicted they face up to 25 years-to-life, plus two additional life terms in prison.
Adella Tom faces two life terms in prison though it's unclear why her punishment is tougher than the others.
an Diego Sheriff's Department said deputies responded to a call of a child in distress at McCormack's home before 2 a.m. on August 30.
The girl, who had bruises and was severely malnourished, was taken to a hospital, where she died, according to authorities.
After deputies arrived at the home, they contacted the girl's adoptive father, Brian McCormack, who drove over and shot himself in front of them, the sheriff's department said.

Never heard of it, anyone here have knowledge of it?
I’ve learned here from many adamant posters, one or two in particular, that the New Covenant assures me that all we have to do is accept Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior, and all our sins will be forgiven.
Alas, I, a Jew, I learn, am not to be forgiven by he who shall bring McCormack and her kin into his kingdom.
All I can say is that I’ve lived in some pretty lousy neighborhoods and don’t intend to do it again.
In fact, to speed up the move, I’ll get the rope.
"Leticia taught courses called 'Kingdom Life Encounter' about how to model one's life after Jesus at the Rock Church in San Diego, founded by former NFL player Miles McPherson, who is the pastor."Never heard of it, anyone here have knowledge of it?
Never heard of it either, but easy enough to find: https://www.sdrock.com/
I've seen worse.
Whoever wrote that headline should learn about the proper use of a period. That sentence needs more periods. Any sentence one has to read three times to understand is a poorly written sentence.
In modern journalism, pronouns matter, not punctuation.
Dear Golux,
Anyone who accepts Christ as their Savior also accepts responsibility for their actions. Christ’s own words are not “Go and sin some more,” they are “Go and sin no more.” The weight of sin should bare heavily on anyone who truly accepts Christ. While far from perfect, I strive daily to live an honorable life, helping others, being honest in all interactions, holding to my word, and loving those around me.
The Bible makes clear that all life comes from God. Children are a gift from God.
The Bible also makes clear that what we do to the least among us we do to God and He can and will reject us for it. (Matthew 25).
A lot of fake Christians will be unpleasantly surprised on Judgment Day. Even though I have been a believer all my life, I personally believe my spot in Heaven is by no means secure.
Others will argue that Christ already paid the price for our sins on the Cross. Only the King of Kings is the final authority and I will wait for His decision. I hope He recognizes me as one of His own and takes me in.
The rock church there’s a franchisee operation from what I understand. There are a number of the rock churches across the country and I believe the first one started in Virginia Beach

If they read the New Testament they would know otherwise.
There was this dude named Saul and he was a hardcore Jew. Jesus came down to give him a clue as these young people would say.
Saul had to be Baptized in the Spirit before becoming a Christ follower, and that is what the NT said.
He later changed his name to Paul and spread the message of Christ everywhere he could.
Yes some “work” is required into becoming and being a Christian. Saul was blind as a bat in the literal sense and the only way he could see again is travel to the home Jesus told him to go to and be Baptized.
Then again these megachurches are more of a feel good social club than an actual church. I don’t trust them as far as I could throw them.
As a lifelong Christian ve grown to understand that all this four-walled walled church stuff is just a total crock. They are businesses. They aresocial clubs for like-minded people To make themselves feel somehow superior to all the other sinners out there. Mob mentality.
In my 50s I’ve left the church and have lived a quiet Christian life. I have a one on one relationship with my creator and try to live by example.
Its nothing more simple than that.
All these religions, all these man-made rules, all the different denominations to try to differentiate themselves from other denominations to gain more business, it’s nonsense.
And to say God calls out his wrath on nations due to their own godliness is also a crock. It’s the natural order of things. Inject the virus and do a host without proper immunity that host will die. Inject ungodliness into Nation and that nation will eventually crumble. Again it’s the natural order of things as it occurs throughout nature. I believe God just sits back and let it happen.
That in essence is his wrath.
Gonna be a lot of surprises for some in the afterlife.
We are in 100% agreement.
Texting rules (ruins?) the lives of our kids.
No matter whose phone I use, everyone can tell when I text because I use punctuation.
I wonder why she did this
Asking for forgiveness and conducting repentance (change) must be part of acceptance of Christ as persoanl savior, and without the former two I am not convinced that the latter is accepted by Christ. And it is a process - change and allowing Christ in to guide change, not a mere one-off statement. At the end of the day it is not the mere statement, but how the process has gone following the statement - in my view.
People can make confessional statements, but go on without change as if nothing else needed to happen. I don’t think G-d’s way is that simple.
Hard to wrap the head around this story. How can a true Christian(s) abuse a child in the manner of abuse reported? That the adoptive father shoot’s himself in front of the police screams volumes about his guilt. Truly messed up people.
There are some people who have the odd belief that they can do anything and it is not sin, because they have been "freed from sin"; they are very few. They misunderstand so badly. There more people who sin and treat forgiveness as a get out of jail free card, cheap grace.
. Others try, with varying degrees of success or diligence, to live a transformed life.
And, alas, I, a simple Christian, learned from an Orthodox Jewish co-worker that I, McCormack and her kin and all other Christians are not to be forgiven or restored to life by Jehovah / Yahweh because we are not Jews.
Give it a rest, Buckwheat. Nobody was busting your chops yesterday when you went to temple, so extend the courtesy to those of us that will attend church today. If you want to argue issues of faith, perhaps you could do it between Monday and Friday.
Thanks.
