The white light from the sun is absorbed by molecules of nitrogen and oxygen (and tiny particles) in our atmosphere. The absorbed energy is immediately emitted, spherically, in all directions.

The law of light scattering is that blue rays are scattered 16 times as much as the rays at the red end of the spectrum. (The intermediate colored rays are also scattered in proportion to their wavelengths.)

Sunsets, in which the sun’s rays travel in a straight line from the sun to our eyes, appear red/orange because the blue rays are mostly removed by scattering.

The blue sky above us, which we view at an angle close to 90 degrees to the direction of the sun’s rays, results from the greater scattering of blue light, the red rays continuing straight back into space.

Our system several tens of thousands of years ago was a double system, consisting of a bright northern part involving our present sun and Jupiter along with its moons, and a very darkish southern system containing the four bodies with the roughly 26-degree axis tilts.
