The Vatican announced Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI passed away Saturday morning at 9:34 a.m. He was 95 years old.
He is most immediately remembered outside the Catholic Church for his surprise resignation — the first papal abdication since 1415 — and subsequent life as the world’s first "pope emeritus" in centuries.
Benedict was born Joseph Ratzinger on April 16, 1927, in Bavaria. He came of age in Germany after World War I at the same time the Nazi regime was growing in power.

It is well worth reading in full.
So now that the issue of having two Popes is finally resolved( it split the Church), where does the Catholic Church go from here ?
Catholic Church dead at 1432.
RIP he was 95.......I should live so long
John Paul the Great now greets newly-arrived Benedict the Good.
Depends…. My grandmother turned 99 on Monday and is in great shape. I’ve seen others languish along terribly through their advanced years.
For instance, bout to snow blow my 87 year old neighbor’s driveway. He hasn’t been able to get out of his chair for a month. Can’t breath, on oxygen all day.
I think one difference is the Popes (and many in the Catholic hierarchy for that matter) have access to medical care most of us do not.
Which I’m sure greatly improves their quality of life in the golden years.
Much like our elite politicians. Leftys with Platinum healthcare tend to live forever...
Matt: 16:16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
Now we will never know the story of how he was deposed (not that it was likely to come anyway) for the marxist Bergoglio
Truly historical times we are living in.
RIP Benedict XVI.
You're a good man.
Stupid Americans have been brainwashed to repeat cheap slogans about the oceans or Brazilian rainforest, or promoting the deep-state to ostensibly fix all our problems. It feeds narcissism and makes us think we are moral, when in fact, we do nothing.
Meanwhile, an actual human being living right next door needs his trash taken out, or his driveway cleaned, or a ride to the doctor every week.
My great-grandfather lived to 97 and only rarely visited doctors. As a young man in his late 30s, a doctor had listened to his heartbeat and told him that he’d be dead by the time he was 40.
Appreciate that! Just wrapped up….poor guy is in bad shape but enjoying the games. He’s a Korean War vet. Joined at 17! Reminds me of my late grandfather, a WW2 combat vet who made it to 97!
The sense of community in Montana is unlike anywhere else I’ve ever lived.
Great point.
For one thing, it means that the TradCaths who did not go all the way to become sedevacantist (SSPV) but held to Ratzinger being their pope, now have no living pope for their church, which (one?) they claim to be the One True Church (OTC). Which cannot be, since distinctive Catholic teachings are not manifest in the only wholly inspired substantive authoritative record of what the NT church believed (which is Scripture, in particular Acts through Revelation, which best shows how the NT church understood the gospels).
