The Holy Father emphasized that the Catechism teaches that people with same-sex attraction should not be marginalized.
On his return flight from South Sudan on Sunday, Pope Francis said that God loves and accompanies people with same-sex attraction.
When asked by a journalist what the Pope would say to families in Congo and South Sudan who reject their children because they are homosexual, Pope Francis responded that the Catechism teaches that people with same-sex attraction should not be marginalized.
“People with homosexual tendencies are children of God. God loves them. God accompanies them,” the Pope said during an in-flight press conference on his return from Juba on Feb. 5.
“To condemn someone like this is a sin. Criminalizing people with homosexual tendencies is an injustice,” he added.
In a first for a papal trip, Pope Francis was joined for the in-flight press conference by two other Christian leaders: his Anglican counterpart, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, and the moderator of the Church of Scotland, Iain Greenshields, who also took part in the “ecumenical pilgrimage of peace” in South Sudan Feb. 3-5.
Together, the three Christian leaders answered questions and spoke about South Sudan’s peace process, the war in Ukraine, and mining in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Archbishop Welby said that he “wholeheartedly agreed” with what Pope Francis said about the Congo, that it is “not the playground of great powers.”
Moderator Greenshields added that in South Sudan’s peace process “actions speak louder than words.”

I had nuns at Catholic school years ago. They were strict, and we feared them. However, those years in C-Schools raise me so far above publik eddikashun that when I got to college, it was a breeze. That includes Masters and Doctorate in a real academic subject (e.g., not woke sewage). Flush the left and burn the sewage.
As for the Pope, thank God, back in my days, I had a real Catholic Pope, not a Jesuit.

If he means to excuse the sin and let the sinner just go on his way to hell, well that’s dead wrong. As in death of the soul.
Sodomy done with deliberation and awareness is a mortal sin, and needs to be confessed with a resolution to leave that sin behind. There are also therapies and spiritual direction that can be an enormous help in curing these unfortunate people of their obsessions.
The Church is not in the business of holding unrepentant sinners’ hands as they go to eternal damnation. Quite the opposite.

I remember reading how the people of Sodom and Gomorrah had quite a lot of “same sex attraction”, yet God marginalized them pretty good!

This Pope is not a “holy” man in any way, shape or form. He is just a political actor on the world stage, using his position to advance his Marxist world view.
Well, yes, God loves everyone and calls each and every one to be with Him. That’s good Christian teaching. But in the context of Bergoglio, it is a deceptive camel’s nose under the tent. Remember, the Devil can quote scripture and appear as beautiful. In short, yes God loves sinners but He doesn’t condone sin. Frankie seems to leave the last part out.
I think “accompany” here means something like stagnating with homosexuals. Being with them, merely. No leadership, no exhortation to grow in purity. But, hey, many in the Church “accompany” heterosexual fornicators as well. I can’t remember hearing a homily where chastity was mentioned as something expected of lay people. But I am getting off topic, I guess.
