We rarely pay attention to one of the most shocking warnings Jesus ever gave: “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea (Mark 9:14). This is the gentle Jesus, meek and mild, speaking to everyone, addressing everyone as whoever.

Yes. A fearful warning indeed.
Millstones are the first thing I think of when I hear of a harm done to a little child. Our Lord is patient. A lot more patient than I would be. I suspect that is why he said “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay”.
Romans 12:19-21 King James Version (KJV)
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
The above is the Lord’s version of “Oh honey! Just bless your little ole heart. I will pray for you!”. I used that to respond to the bitter harpies I formerly worked with. The actually sweet, hard-working, and honest ones there (all coincidentally conservative), and I got along just fine and I prayed for them as well (just with a lighter spirit).
