OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A group of parents, faith leaders and a public education nonprofit sued Monday to stop Oklahoma from establishing and funding what would be the nation’s first religious public charter school.

The lawsuit filed in Oklahoma County District Court seeks to stop taxpayer funds from going to the St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual School. The Statewide Virtual Charter School Board voted 3-2 last month to approve the application by the Catholic Archdiocese of Oklahoma City to establish the school, and the board and its members are among those listed as defendants.

It will be just like China.
Let the money follow the child, but otherwise stay out of it.

Christian though I am, I would not support this. Do it, and you’ll have the followers of the pedophile prophet demanding support for their madrasahs, and you’d have to give it to them.

Just tell parents who send their kids to private schools that tuition is deductible from state income tax.

I think that any taxpayer funds going to education, should follow the student to whichever school the parents choose. Public schools, private schools, parochial schools, religious schools, even home schooling.

Parents should be allowed to send their children to any school they choose and not be punished for doing so, by not only having to pay the tuition to a private school, but also pay taxes for the public schools they do not use.

"Oklahoma parents, faith leaders and education group sue to stop US’s first [??? emphasis added] public religious school"

As a consequence of schools not teaching history, the referenced article is wrong about Oklahoma school project being first public religious school.

More specifically some 19th century public schools, known as Common schools, gave children religious instruction.

Common school

One of the reasons that Common schools disappeared is that KJV Bible used in the school was not popular with Catholics.

Parents should get a tax rebate to pay for sending their children to school of their choice.

I’m no. It was Protestant teaching that was pushed on the Catholic students.
