Some pastors just are not preparing their flock for persecution. Jesus tells us, "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake."
The Sermon where Begg doubled down and called his critics Pharisees was even more troubling. He could have easily ended the controversy by saying he understood where his critics were coming from and that would pray on the matter seeking guidance from the Holy Spirit. That would have ended the controversy right there and allowed him to save face.
Maybe. Just because they're at a wedding doesn't mean they're having a "return to God moment."
