Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father In Heaven,
How Blessed and Hallowed is Your Most Wonderful and Holy Name!
You Alone are Worthy To Be Praised and Worshiped,
For You Alone Are The One True God,
The Creator, Sustainer, and Destroyer of All Things.

Abba Father, There is So Much Evil in our World!
Every Day we hear another story of how the wicked plot together
Against You, or against the people who love You.
Every Day,
Another leak,
another lie,
another revelation of duplicity,
Of plots and schemes.
Expose them to the Light, Oh LORD!
For their wickedness can flourish only under the cover of darkness.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.

The first time I rode my motorcycle down from Boca Raton to The Florida Keys, I got a frightening surprise. The ride to Florida City (the Gateway to the Everglades) was mostly on the highway, and somewhat boring. With miles of Sawgrass to my right and the City of Miami on my left, it is wise to stay on the elevated highway for the duration. An occasional alligator might venture out onto the highway, but by now I was used to them. The accepted lore was that alligators were generally shy creatures, and won't bother you if you don't bother them. I know, sometimes they will eat your poodle, but that was the general feeling. Alligators won't attack unless bothered, or hungry, or during mating season, or perhaps just bored. Anyway, I wasn't afraid of alligators. Crocodiles, on the other hand, were considered extremely nasty. They will attack for all of the above reasons, and just because they are crocodiles. We had a saying growing up, to be able to discern the differences:

"Alligators in America
Crocodiles in the Congo."

Imagine my horror, when exiting Florida City onto a Raised Causeway through the Mangrove Swamps:

Seriously. I'm not making this up. Crocodiles are NOT confined to Africa. The New World has its share of crocodile species. The reason they like the Mangrove Swamps is that the water is neither seawater nor fresh, but is a brackish mixture. And here I was, alone on a twenty mile causeway only a few feet raised up from their favorite habitat.

I steadied myself and kept riding. That twenty miles stretch was scarier than Seven Mile Bridge. It was even scarier than the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel (22 miles) that I crossed on a Sportster in 1991.

Seeing endless ocean on each side for 22 miles didn't scare me nearly as much as the prospect of being eaten by a crocodile. It must have been all those Tarzan Movies I used to watch as a kid!

Perhaps the difference in perception of danger was the fact that the Causeway wasn't elevated much higher than the surrounding Mangrove Swamp. It didn't seem that difficult for a crocodile to scramble up the embankment and surprise a hapless motorist. The Seven-Mile Bridge is very high up, offering breathtaking ocean vistas that make the 240 mile trip to Key West every bit worth it. It's all about being elevated, above the danger.

This is the reason David called His God (My Rock" in so many of his songs. God is "My Rock and My Salvation", "My Rock and My Fortress", "The Rock That is Higher Than I", and "My Rock and My Deliverer".

The Name implies a higher ground, where I am sheltered, protected, and safe.
