On the day they got "saved" both Mike and Mark would have felt the same

How do you know that? besides, it has nothing to do with feeling.

Why not a feeling a witness from the Holy Ghost or to feel the presents of the Lord in your life?

When the Lord is not as close to you, do you not know it?

Because feelings can deceive you. Your assureance of salvation comes from knowing what God says in His word and trusting it.

I know when I am not as close to God as I could/should be, and I do feel bad, but I KNOW I am not close because of what God says not because of what I feel.

Think about that story Footsteps in the Sand. It is kind of right on track. The person did not feel close when he was going thru the bad times, but in reality that was when God was closest. I believe there is a good point to that. When we "feel" alone, we should trust that God will be there for us.
