When my parents lived in the Holy Land, they travelled to Syria and met Mirna and her family. My father (Freeper "history matters") completely believes in the validity of the messages and the messenger (which is in contrast to his opposition to promoting Medjugorge). At Da's request we have an Our Lady of Soufanieh ikon on my father's bedside table in the hospital together with an image of Our Lady of Knock, and an olive wood crucifix that was carved in Bethlehem.

Wow,your folks lived in the Holy Land?! That must have been a fantastic experience! I have a photo of Our Lady of Soufanieh in my bedroom as well.I wish I had known that Mirna was in California last year! I don't really expect the media to report this, but it's gotten so that we can't even depend on our Catholic newspapers to report this!(sigh).

I agree with your dad, sadly, about Medjugorie.I supported that apparition in the beginning but not now.

I believe in the Miracle of Damascus.I no longer believe in Medjurge(sp?).Before I got on FR this afternoon,I spent some time looking for a site to order the videos on these apparitions but couldn't find any. We used to have the complete set in our parish library. One video was broken by a small kid.I logged out #3 but I don't know what happened to the 2nd video. If I remember correctly,I ordered the videos from Fr.Fox's magazine in the early '90's.Now there's a thought, maybe Father still carries them.Think I'll check.

That's great news,Siobhan! I'm so glad! And thanks for posting his suggestion to pray for the intercession of Padre Pio and St Catherine of Siena for the Bishops'meeting(next week?).Please thank him.I'll be sure and remember to pray for them. It's so much better and positive than slamming them.

Just curious why you don't believe in Medjugorje anymore. I have a very close relative who believes in Medjugorje (she's visited), the woman in Ireland - Christina Gallagher, and also that woman (now deceased) from NY - forget her name. That stuff just scares me. I don't know why some people are willing to believe anything. The devil is certainly responsible for those "apparitions", IMO.

I'm still happily checking out the Miracle of Damascus, but it does seem legitimate!

There's not just one reason, but several.First, the apparent disobedience of nearly everybody envolved. The National Bishops Conference of Yugoslavia, including the local bishop, has asked people NOT to go to Medjugorie but they still do.I've heard a number of questionable conduct of some of the seers as well as some really bad things regarding some of the Franciscan monks.I don't want to go into details. The Bishop and spiritual director of Mirna has asked her to tell people NOT to talk about other apparitions doing her talks.A priest and some other followers of another apparition came to one of Mirna's appearance and started handing out literature on their apparition.

I really believe that the Medjurgore(sp?)have been trying to suppress this.Mirna's Bishop and also her spiritual director has asked her to tell people not to ask questions or discuss other apparitions during her appearances.A priest and some followers of another apparition made it a point to pass out information on their apparition doing Mirna's appearance.I guess some of the Medjurgoge people took offense.

I personally believe in the Miracle of Damascus. In the beginning of the videos, during the credits, they showed many, many Roman Catholic Bishops as well as Greek Orthodox Bishops who approve.I can't remember the number of approvals but I would say,on hindsight, between 20-25 total bishops of the 2 Churches.

I remember when I first heard about these apparitions, how impressed I was by the number of Catholic and Orthodox Bishops who have approved and also given witness to their belief in the miracle.I would say, going just by the credits shown on the video,or rather right after the credits, they show a list of the Catholic and Orthodox Bishops who have given their approval.I think I saw(just guessing)between 20-25 Bishops from the 2 Churches!

I finally got through this post. Wow, this is really powerful! I also find it interesting the JPII visited Damascus during the Easter season of 2001 to promote Christian unity. Also, the fact he sat by Mirna during the Mass indicates to me there is something supernatural going on here.

As for Medjugorje, my mother in law has been there. She even brought me a rosary and a medal that she purchased at the site and had them blessed by one of the priests. I told her I thought this was a false apparition because of the disobedience of their Franciscan priests. The priest who organized the visit arranged for Jakov, the youngest of the seers, to speak at her Parish about 4 years ago. We went to hear him and the place was packed. He seemed sincere however, something didn’t feel right. I think it was the fact he wasn’t making good eye contact with the congregation .

After reading this, I am seriously considering “retiring” my Medjugorje rosary and using another one. Thanks for the great post!

Thank you for your post! I think the obedience issue speaks volumes. The difference between Damascus and Medjugorje. And also the fact that so many Bishops of both the Catholic Church and Orthodox Church have issued approval.Did you check out the photo links?

I caught the tale end of Fr Fox on Mother Angelica's WEWN shortwave radio late last night. He had just come back from Damascus from seeing Mirna. He said that he witnessed the oil coming from either her or the picture of Our Lady.

I think that you will find it totally engrossing.I just posted another thread on OL Soufanieh("News From Damascus For The Unity of Christians" along with a page from Fr Fox's magazine-all on one thread).I was wrong.Father Fox went to Damascus last year, right at the same time as the Sept 11th attack.I guess I must have been close to going to sleep!
