SAN FRANCISCO, (CWNews.com) -- Father Joseph Fessio, SJ< who was ordered by his Jesuit superiors to leave San Francisco in what was generally recognized as a disciplinary move in March, has received a new assignment as chancellor of Ave Maria University.
Father Fessio, the founder of Ignatius Press, had clashed with the Jesuit order over his plans for Campion College, a new institution with a strong Catholic identity that has been set up on the doorstep of the Jesuit-run University of San Francisco. He was ordered by his provincial, Father Thomas Smolich, SJ, to break all ties with Campion College. Father Fessio was also given a new assignment as assistant chaplain of Santa Teresita Hospital, outside Los Angeles.
In a surprise announcement today, however, Ave Maria University revealed that the Jesuit order had approved the appointment of Father Fessio as chancellor. Nick Healy, the president of the Michigan-based university, said that he had secured the permission of the Jesuit order for the appointment.
Father Fessio's new assignment will include responsibility for setting up a new campus of Ave Maria University in Florida. "What is being planned in the southwest of Florida is so daunting, yet so crucial for the Church in the Americas, that we need the help of seasoned educators," Healy said. "I asked the Society of Jesus if they would assign Father Fessio to us, and they graciously agreed."

Cool. It appears the price of his release from prison was to get out of California, away from Campion, and prevent him from competing nearby to the University of San Francisco.
Almost looks like they made him sign a corporate non-compete contract. ;-)

Our family is very excited about this development.
If you live in a rotten diocese and a rotten parish, give your tithe to Ave Maria University!

There are many aspects to the ongoing national scandals which have some relation to the decline of Catholic higher education. The idea that it is OK to dissent from Church teachings on such things as homosexuality is enshrined in
the moral relativism, liberalism, multiculturalism, and
PC ideologies which reign over Catholic colleges and universities in the U.S. The only way out of this quagmire
lies in restoring orthodoxy and right reason in Catholic higher education in order to produce the mature, well-educated, and orthodox adult leaders of the Church of the future.

Don't forget to still support Campion College. Don't let it's opponents succeed in squelching it.

I agree with all you say however wouldn't Catholic Higher education's failure be staunched by successful instruction at the elementary level . As the good protestant pastor said, "Everything I needed to know, I learned in Kindergarten."
If confirmation candidates only knew the age old wisdom of the church, really knew and understood the seven gifts to our souls, the gifts poured out upon our Lord as he began to preach the Good News: Wisdom; Understanding;Knowledge; Counsel;Fortitude; Piety; Fear of the Lord, how well they would be served.
Additionally, if only our children and particularly our Conformundi were familiar with the Fruits of the Holy Spirit, they would face life girded with knowledge which, when enhanced by the grace giving gifts of penance and the Eucharist, would steal them against the Evil One. The particular Fruits which need emphasizing today are charity and chastity--both interdendent upon one another for success. V's wife.
