That is what I finally concluded. It could have been a plant by someone who wanted to sow some seeds of discord and undermine confidence in the clergy post Vatican II.
Perhaps it's more of a fictional recreation of actual events; a historical novel, if you will. We may never know to what extent Vatican II was influenced by, if not actually planned, the Kremlin.
I would not write off "AA-1025" so easliy.
In my personal experiences I have met more then a few priests who willfully entered the priesthood under false pretenses. Homosexuals - who were quite proud of themselves, and described the process of fooling their teachers in the seminaries (those who were conservative)....and pretended a type of orthodoxy so as to fly under the radar.
Also, I know of at least two priests whose parents were card-carrying members of the Communist party....and were quite proud of this fact.
As some authors have indicated - which tends to corroborate the AA-1025 story - is that gay men were used as one of the primary vehicles for infiltration. They were blackmailable (both in the 1930s and today), and so could be easily controlled, manipulated, and ordered about. Obedience to superiors, and the peer pressure of being "outed" within teh limited universe of their fellow priests was the vise which locked them into step. They had to obey.........to go along.......to follow and implement "policy", or face sanctions.
What they found was that the gay priest was the ideal vehicle for their plans. He had something to hide - which could be played upon, making him vulnerable. He had few true morals, so he could be easily corrupted. Even if he did have some morals, he could be gradually weaned of them, nad made quite useful.
