Prayers Requested

Dear Friends,

On Thursday January 16 at 8:10 p.m. CST, my father, Lee R. Shelton, Jr. passed away after a short bout with pneumonia. He was 79 years of age and last August celebrated 60 years of marriage together with his life-long sweetheart Loraine. He was the pastor of Mt Zion Bible Church and President of Mt. Zion Ministries/Chapel Library for the past 23 years. He retired from the full time ministry some 3 months ago.

Although we are sad at his departure, the Christian Faith gives us hope of the hereafter. After a life of suffering, some 26 major surgeries and living with pain most every day, it is a blessing that he no longer suffers and has an eternal rest with his Lord. Through the midst of his pain, God gave him the grace and ability to develop a printing and distribution ministry of good Christian literature that circulated throughout the world.

His funeral will be from the Mt. Zion Bible Church, 2603 W. Wright St., Pensacola, Florida on Tuesday, January 21, at 11 a.m. Reviewal will be at the Bayview Funeral Home on Scenic Highway in Pensacola on Monday evening, January 20, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Our family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers during this time of grief.

Lee R Shelton, Jr. was also the grandfather of sheltonmac, dawntreader, and greenthumb who post here often.

I had no idea your father was L.R.Shelton, Jr. He was one of the finest preachers of the Twentieth Century, in my opinion. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." ~~ the_doc

I confess that I did not know that L.R. Shelton was one of the finest preachers of the Twentieth Century... though, thanks to FReeper "sheltonmac", I definitely had heard of the name of "Lee Shelton".

Well!! I know his name now. I guess I will have to correct my Ignorance, and apply myself to the reading of a bit more Lee Shelton. After all, I still have very MUCH to learn in my own walk upon this mortal coil.

Which just goes to prove:

Prayers requested for Our Brother sheltonmac and all his family, AJ.

God, in His Good Providence, has decided that his Grandfather Lee Shelton has fought the good fight for bloody-well long enough on this cursed Earth, and the Faithful Servant is deserving of His Everlasting Reward.

Do a Google search. You will find audio sermons and written sermons and tracts.

(See also the important work of L.R.Shelton, Sr., including expositions of Daniel 9:24-27 and a very famous message called "How God Saved a Baptist Preacher." )

Never underestimate what a wonderful balm it is to your soul that you know that your loved one's Redeemer lives, that He has conquered sin and death, and that your father/grandfather wouldn't leave His presence now for all the riches in the universe.

That's because he already has all the riches in the universe.

Thank You, "Doc".

May I ask permission, of the Heirs of Lee Shelton (I ask of SOLA GRACIA and SHELTONMAC only), to post an observation on the Reformed Doctrine of Victory over the Grave, and our Laughter against the Sting of Death??

I ask only for the opportunity to explain Reformed Protestant doctrine to those Roman Catholics (Polycarp) and Eastern Orthodox (MarMema) who, though they be our Brethren, do not perhaps fully understand our Reformed Doctrine of the Saint's Victory over Death??

Nonetheless, you Heirs have a bit too much sad-but-Joyful Kingdom celebration at hand right now to bother with my little request for a doctrinal discussion. If you forbear, I will wait for another time.

God Bless!! The Promise is to Lee Shelton, and to Lee Shelton's children.

OP

If you're a Calvanist and questioning, it probably doesn't matter, you're predestined to be damned anyway. But if you believe II Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." (NIV), then it really DOES matter. Thanks again.

I thought only Calvinists were rude and unfeeling..how nice that we are not alone

I went to read the link..this stood out to me so i am going to post it

This continued for three weeks, and I began to lie awake for hours at night going over my entire religious life, trying to find the time and the place when and where I had ever realized, or had come to the knowledge of the fact that I was a lost sinner, and where I had taken my place as such before God and found pardon. Late in the night I would give up in despair and drop off to sleep, waking the next morning with the same question still before me. All day I would reason, "Maybe he is wrong; he has been saved only a few months and is just a young Christian. Here I am his pastor; I finished high school, college, and have had several years of Bible study in the seminary, and have preached for twenty-five years; surely I ought to know more about these things than he does." I argued, "He must be wrong; but if perchance he is not wrong, then surely I am an exception." By the time services came again, I would be all patched up and in my place to hear him, thinking, "Well, maybe he will use some other expression tonight."

Churches are full of people that have never had this moment...

I would ask you to remove my post #29 because it was out of place and I have offended others. Sorry.

God be with you.
6 For I am already being offered, and the time of my departure is come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith: 8 henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give to me at that day; and not to me only, but also to all them that have loved his appearing.

Thank you..and thank you all for your kind words and prayers.

My mom and dad (sola gracia) are heading down there tomorrow I believe. We grandkids, at least the ones here up north, unfortunately won't be able to make it to the funeral.

We were blessed and fortunate enough to have seen him this past August. I'm definitely grateful for that.

My mom has been sending us e-mails they have been receiving from people saying how he had touched their lives. It's really something to see how God worked through him to reach so many people.

I'll miss him so much, but I'm so comforted knowing he's finally home.

But I just wanted to say a thank you to everyone..it really means a lot.

Thank you for your prayers and words of comfort. As sad as the death of any loved one can be, we who have eternal life know that we will all be reunited in that home prepared for us.
