Reading this article it makes me sad for all the vitriol of the Orthodox against the Catholics. I have seen many thread on FR where the Protestants attack the Catholics for standing up for some of the same the fundamental, orthodox Christian beliefs as expressed by your Patriarch in this article, the Orthodox stand by and say nothing. Yet in the very same threads as soon as the subject turns to matters where the Orthodox disagree with the Catholics they will join the Protestants in attacking Catholics.

While the Orthodox and the Catholics have differences, they are nothing compared to the gulf that separates both from Protestantism. Yet I have never seen the Orthodox stand with the Catholics, but instead always attack and join their voices to the Protestant heretics. It is a scandalous thing.

I know from my discussions with a close friend who is a Byzantine priest that the eastern churches have some beautiful ways of understanding Christianity that differ in perspective (though not in Truth) from what I have learned from the Roman Church. Our Orthodox brothers could do much to help us Catholics cure the heretical misunderstandings that generated Protestantism by joining with us where we agree.
