I am sorry that statement blows me away-how can a movement that appeared 1,500 years or so after the original claim that the later church is more original than the original church?

At the Diet of Worms, where Luther was called to defend himself, the Emperor Charles V asked that very same thing of Luther. Luther's position, of course, was that only the Bible could be trusted to give a true picture of the early Church. So popes, councils, Fathers of the Church--all wrong. because they did not agree with Luther's interpretation of Scripture or, for that matter, Luther's definition of what was Scripture.
