One of our purposes is to let people learn about and remember the things you don't get in your "standard" History education today.

Now, that is a big subject. Sad to say, but because of the politicization of the universities, what little history is taught today is often bogus nonsense.

Nice thread. Now everybody knows why when you fly to O'Hare you're baggage tag says "ORD."

We try and put a dent into the lack of History being taught. If only peoiple would figure out history is noot just about dates and places but about people and their actions and how they shaped events it'd make it more interesting to some.

Our history is who we are.

One example. You want to know why the Western and Muslim worlds view things so differently? The modern civilization of the West was born out of the Renaissance and Reformation, around 1500. The Muslim world had neither a Renaissance nor a Reformation, but instead suffered decline, politically, territorially and intellectually, from around 1700 to the humiliating aftermath of WWI. They hate us because they hate their own weakness and envy our strength. The history explains it, not the nonsense coming out of the press and liberal salons.

That's what I tell my kids the Muslims are stuck in the 15th century and they want everyone else back there with them.

Yep. The issue for muslims today is will they have their own reformation and join the rest of the world with secular government and market economies and reformulate "jihad" not to include military conqest or terror. After the Iraq War there actually seem to be more and more muslims coming to the realization that this is their only path to a better life.

I sure hope so, they have to change from within, we can't do it for them.
