If he had this patch (or one like it) on his uniform, he was most probably Ranger qualified. I don't believe attached perosonnel are authorized to wear the Ranger Flash

Yep, that is what he had. I guess a part of me just want to believe there was something more. Thanks

The Rangers are a very special breed of soldier, you should be proud that your brother served with them. I might add though that honorable service to our country no matter where or in what capacity is to be appreciated and never forgotten.

This might help you if you know when he might have attended Ranger school. Ranger class photos

There were quite a few.

Michael Wittman and Ernst Barkmann come to mind.

Michael Wittman was the leading panzer ace. He was credited with the destruction of 138 Allied tanks and 132 anti-tank guns in less than two years.

Sam, I just knew you'd beat me to it. LOL.

Soldiers like SS-Oberscharfuhrer Ernst Barkmann, who in an exposed spot with his sole Panther knocked out nine American M4 Shermans before withdrawing, were quick to prove the outstanding qualities of this tank.

"SS-Untersharführer Barkmann was left behind with his Panther on 27 July 1944 to guard two broken down vehicles north of Canisy. During the night of 28/29 July the vast backward moves of the Division completely cut him off from his own forces. He destroyed one tank and started his march towing the other. Partly crossing American lines and partly driving among them at night, he knocked out 14 enemy tanks and reached his own lines on 30 July 1944."

Then of course there is Germany's top ace:

On the 8th of August 1944, Michael Wittmann was killed commanding his beloved Tiger tanks in a typical attack against superior forces near Gaumesnil, Normandy. He died the most decorated and successful German tank ace of the Second World War with 138 tanks and 132 guns credited to him. Most of his successes were achieved on the eastern front, starting with his StuG III, afterwards advancing to his more famous Tiger I.

Cool bumper sticker! Too bad you can't use the "other" car to commute with.

I know it's hard. There were some very good soldiers on the other side, too bad the cause they were fighting for was so evil. I can admire their skills, dedication and acheivements and still despise the cause they fought for, even when they were only fighting for "their country" and not necessarily the Nazis
