John Hood who lost a leg and an arm and then a whole army charging when he should not, James Longstreet whom Jubal Early painted unfairly as a villain after Gettysburg, and a dozen or so others.

In Hoods defence (if memory serves) he didn't want to charge up little round top.
As for Longstreet, well someone had to take the blame for Gettysberg. And it wasn't going to be Lee. His fate was sealed when after the war he became a (evil wicked) republican, and continued to criticize Lee.

You're correct about Hood at Gettysburg, I think the reference to the charge when he shouldn't have was at the Battle of Franklin.

A neighbor told me today her family saw the latest released movie on the Alamo and says it's terrific. Have you heard others say whether they liked it? How can it top the John Wayne 'Alamo?'

The new Alamo was great, we enjoyed it. There are a few threads on the movie. A lot of folks are reading only the reviews and bashing it but those that have actually seen it say they like it. It was more historically correct than the John Wayne version and really well done and not even close to PC as the reviews were saying. Check my latest posts or Sams and you can find the threads on it. It is worth seeing.

There's a couple of threads on the movie on FR. Snippy and I saw it and IMHO it's pretty good. You can't fault the final assault it's as accurate as I've seen.

For Christmas I got the DVDs of Gettysburg and Gods and Generals. Best movies I've ever seen, especially Gettysburg. Except that I stayed irate throughout the movie over Martin Sheen's protrayal of Lee. That was a dud.

Thanks for the review on the new 'Alamo.' I can't get into the movie houses, but it's on my list to buy or rent as soon as the DVD is ready. Now, I can't wait to see it! I always ask smart people about new movies....the media reviews aren't reliable!

Martin Sheen's protrayal of Lee

Gettysburg is one of those movies I can watch over and over. I agree Sheen's portrayal of Lee was hard to take. I thought Berringer as Longstreet and Daniels as Chambelain were great. For me, Gettysburg is the best WBTS movie out there.

It's the portrayals of Longstreet and Chamberlain that keep me watching the movie repeatedly, too. I still cry through much of it.

On Saturday after my neighbors came over to tell me how much they loved the movie 'Alamo' I loaned them my DVD of Gettysburg. Right this minute I want to watch it again, but I'll content myself with re-reading the book.

Snippy and I have Gettysburg next on our list of "see it together" movies. We're watching "Band of Brothers" on HBO this week. I still want her to sit and watch "Gods and Generals".
