"It all sounds wonderful."

Snippy, words cannot say how wonderful and sweet it really is. It's like I've been living in the dark for years and have forgotten what sunrise is.

A big o lift of the alfa6 lid to Lee for his fine tale of the re-enactors life. I went to the part of Battle of Westport re-enactment here in Kansas City that was held about 10 or 12 years ago. Very Interesting. Regards alfa6 ;>}

Religious Observances
Ang, RC, Luth : Memorial of St Jerome, patron of scholars/librarians

Religious History
430 Death of Latin Father St. Jerome, ca.75. Converted at 19, Jerome spent the last half of his life rendering the Scriptures into the contemporary ("vulgar") Latin of his day -- hence the "Latin Vulgate" -- as well as preparing commentaries on nearly every book of the Bible.
1770 English revivalist George Whitefield, 56, died in Newburyport, Mass., while on his seventh visit to America. Regarded as the most striking orator to come out of 18th century English revivalism, Whitefield's last spoken words were: 'I had rather wear out, than rust out.'
1943 Pius XII issued the encyclical "Divino Afflante Spiritu," which encouraged Catholic scholars to devote more attention to biblical exegesis in their teachings and writings. One of the long-term effects of this encyclical was the publication in 1970 of the New American Bible.
1951 Billy Graham's "Hour of Decision" first aired over ABC television. Broadcast on Sunday nights 10:00-10:30, the program aired through February 1954, before entering syndication.
1952 The complete Old and New Testament of the Revised Standard Version (RSV) of the Bible was first published by Thomas Nelson and Sons. (The RSV New Testament had first appeared in 1946.)

Media boasts land top hooker in jail

Sept. 30, 10:28 AM (ET)

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A $2,000 an hour prostitute known as New York's No. 1 Escort pleaded not guilty on Thursday to charges of money laundering and prostitution that stemmed from her bragging in the media about her work.
Canadian Natalia McLennan, 25, sobbed uncontrollably in Manhattan Criminal Court after she was unable to post $50,000 bail and was taken away in handcuffs to jail.

The charges against McLennan came after she bragged in several interviews about her professional exploits, including posing provocatively for the cover of New York Magazine under the headline "N.Y.'s # 1 Escort Reveals All."
In that interview, she told the magazine she generated revenues of $1.5 million annually and kept 45 percent of that sum in return for having sex with high-roller clients of NY Confidential, a swanky Moroccan-themed brothel in Manhattan.

McLennan showed up for her arraignment dressed in a skimpy mini-skirt, a see-through blouse and four-inch spike heels, and told the court she had no idea she would remain in custody after the hearing. She wailed as she was taken from the courtroom.
She will remain in jail pending her next hearing on Monday. She faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

(I understand she's going to study to be a brain surgeon while in jail.)

Thank you very much! Re. Battle of Westport. I used to live at 46th and Summit Street on the west end of the Plaza and the Union artillery pits were all along the bluffs on the north side of Brush Creek. I was putting in a water garden in my backyard. Cannon balls and odd pieces of iron scrap kept popping up all over the place. Still have three six pounder balls I use for door stops. I don't think there will be another re-ennactment of the Battle of Westport unless it is at Bryams Ford. The main battlefield at Loose Park is surrounded by people who take exception to cannon fire and cavalry charges.

Some people have no sense of adventure, eh?

BTW, do you have the dates of the Fort Scott event handy. I might want to try and make it down there if my work schedule will allow it.

Thanks for a delightful series. Not being a re-enacter myself, it was a fascinating read of the "inside story." And the wonderful sidebar of the tale of you and Josie was the perfect icing on the cake.
