Thank you! I had a great birthday. PE got me a much appreciated ceiling fan (woohoo!).

I came home with a nice comforter and sheet set. Plus, my mom gave me a "Texas" basket. It's something I feel that only Texans would truly appreciate, LOL. It was a hugh blue basket. In it were bevelled champagne flutes painted with bluebonnets, a yellow rose paper weight, a Texas shaped dish, Texas BBQ sauce, Pepper Jelly, 4 bandannas, a Larry McMurtry book - Streets of Laredo, a bottle of white zinfandel in a Texas wine bag, a bouquet of (fake) bluebonnets in a Texas wine bag, a miniature Texas flag, a "Don't Mess with Texas Women" trivet, a "Don't Mess with Texas" deck of cards and apron, some matches from Texas Roadhouse, some decorator soaps in the shape of the Lone Star, a high ball glass celebrating the 25th anniversary of Texas Stadium (Cowboys 1971-1996), chipotle dip mix, Texas flag magnets, Texas flag coasters, and a "Don't Mess with Texas" recipe holder. She gave it to me right after we got done watching the Alamo (with Dennis Quaid as Sam Houston).

I also got two bookcases, which will arrive hopefully tomorrow or the next day. My mom got them at a garage sale for $20 each. Right now they are in my mom's garage.

I also was able to bring with me my dad's scrapbook (a gift from my grandmother Christmas 1995). In it there are pictures of my grandfather when he was Corps of Engineers and in Korea. I am going to try to get those scanned either tomorrow of the next day.

We also took pictures of KarateBoy and BittyGirl in their Halloween costumes, but not on my camera. I will have to get them to pose for me again tomorrow.

I love my ceiling fan!

Sounds like a wonderful birthday. chipotle dip mix

mmmm. I'll take that!

Ceiling fans are great. Except for the one time I put one in my kitchen. I had a gas stove and if I turned on the ceiling fan it blew out the flames. LOL. It was many moons ago before I was so smart. ;-)

Call me mean but I don't think "winning hearts and minds" is going to work in this part of the world.

Religious History
1260 Under Pope Alexander IV, Chartres Cathedral in France was consecrated. Completed in less than 30 years, the structure represents high Gothic architecture at its purest.
1538 French reformer John Calvin wrote in a letter: 'Among Christians there ought to be so great a dislike of schism, as that they may always avoid it so far as lies in their power.'
1790 English founder of Methodism John Wesley, 87, made the last entry in his 55-year-long journal, written after preaching a sermon: 'I hope many even then resolved to choose the better part.' (Wesley died the following March.)
1911 Missionary widow Aimee Elizabeth Kennedy Semple, 21, married Harold Stewart McPherson, also 21. Afterward, Aimee Semple McPherson went on to establish the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel in 1918. (She and Harold would divorce in 1921).
1956 In Syracuse, New York, Margaret Ellen Towner became the first woman ordained in the Presbyterian Church.

Sperm donor must pay maintenance

A Swedish man who donated sperm to a lesbian couple has been ordered to pay child support for their three children.
In the early 1990s the man, now 39, donated his sperm to a woman in a lesbian relationship. She had three sons, the oldest of whom is now 13 years old.

Although the man signed a document confirming he was the biological father of the children, he told the court the women agreed he would not be involved in their upbringing in any way.
But when the women separated, the biological mother of the three boys demanded child support payments from the man.
He went to court but lost the case and the subsequent appeal before taking the matter to the Supreme Court, the highest appeals court in the country.

The Supreme Court has confirmed the earlier rulings, stating that the biological father is required to pay child support to the mother of the three children he indirectly fathered.

Thought for the day :
"So far as I know, anything worth hearing is not usually uttered at seven o'clock in the morning; and if it is, it will generally be repeated at a more reasonable hour for a larger and more wakeful audience."
