U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Matthew Sheppard prepares to move out on an improvised donkey convoy near Lwar Kowndalan, Afghanistan, Oct. 3, 2005. Sheppard and other paratroopers used donkeys to transport air-dropped supplies off a mountain and back to their patrol base in town.
