Afternoon, Bentfeather. karateboy had a post season baseball game last night. It was close, but they did win (11-10). Now, they get to play again Saturday at 9 am.

Going in to the bottom half of the last inning, they were ahead by 3. Talk about sitting on the edge of the seat...

We've got practice tonight cuz the team he plays on Saturday is undefeated. Yikes, no pressure. I mean, we are talking 7 year olds here.

The Color Of Blue

READ: Numbers 15:37-41

Tell them to make tassels on the corners of their garments . . . and to put a blue thread in the tassels. —Numbers 15:38

The children of Israel were to make tassels on the corners of their garments with “a blue thread in the tassels” (Numbers 15:38). The tassels reminded them to “do all My commandments, and be holy for your God” (v.40). The blue thread—the color of the heavens above—spoke of His immeasurable power and saving grace.

We still need reminders today. In the fuss and frenzy of our busy lives, we easily forget God and His passion for us. We forget that He lives within and around us and loves us with eternal affection. It helps to have something to signify His presence. Blue can be one of those signs.

“The first step is to remember,” says Aslan in C. S. Lewis’ The Silver Chair. Aslan, a figure of Christ, tells Jill to “remember the signs” he has given her.

If you learn God’s signs—like the significance of the color blue—it will be easier to remember God’s love. Blue can remind you of the invisible realm above and all around, unseen and yet as real as anything you can see. A mountain lake, a glacial crevasse, an alpine forget-me-not, a cerulean sky—all remind us of heaven and God’s unfathomable love.

When you see blue, think of God’s love, and especially His love for you. David H. Roper

This is my Father’s world!
He shines in all that’s fair;
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass—
He speaks to me everywhere.  —Babcock

Daily blessings are daily reminders of God.

The phrase for the day is:

kuh va up

Translation:

cover up/covered up

Usage:

Daddy, you know very well my baby doll is covered up with wood chips, just like you suggested.

A Congress On Hospitality

READ: Romans 12:6-13

Be kindly affectionate to one another . . . , given to hospitality. —Romans 12:10,13

Let me be the first to summon the church to a National Congress on Hospitality. We could hold it in Minneapolis near the Betty Crocker Kitchens, and perhaps we could borrow the Pillsbury Doughboy as our symbol. After all, there’s some truth to the slogan, “Nothin’ says lovin’ like somethin’ from the oven.”

The biblical word for hospitality means “a love of strangers.” Some-times people who visit our churches feel unwelcome. No one greets them or notices them. Hospitality, however, can break down barriers and build bridges. It can make strangers feel more welcome than just a word in the church bulletin.

For those tempted to shrug off my call for a Congress on Hospitality because they are planning another evangelistic outreach, let me insist that hospitality doesn’t conflict with outreach; it complements it! Inviting someone in for coffee, offering to babysit, taking a meal to a sick mother—all these show that we care. And people listen to someone who cares.

On second thought, I withdraw my call for a National Congress on Hospitality. Instead, let’s invite a few lonely folks to our homes and show them genuine Christian hospitality. Haddon W. Robinson

The good we do is never lost,
Each kindly act takes root;
And every bit of love we sow
In time will bear its fruit.  —Anon.

Christian hospitality is the bridge between an open heart and an open home.
