Lord,
Keep our Troops forever in Your care
Give them victory over the enemy...
Grant them a safe and swift return...
Bless those who mourn the lost. .
FReepers from the Foxhole join in prayer for all those serving their country at this time.

U.S. Military History, Current Events and Veterans Issues
Where Duty, Honor and Country are acknowledged, affirmed and commemorated.
|
Our Mission: The FReeper Foxhole is dedicated to Veterans of our Nation's military forces and to others who are affected in their relationships with Veterans. In the FReeper Foxhole, Veterans or their family members should feel free to address their specific circumstances or whatever issues concern them in an atmosphere of peace, understanding, brotherhood and support. The FReeper Foxhole hopes to share with it's readers an open forum where we can learn about and discuss military history, military news and other topics of concern or interest to our readers be they Veteran's, Current Duty or anyone interested in what we have to offer. If the Foxhole makes someone appreciate, even a little, what others have sacrificed for us, then it has accomplished one of it's missions. We hope the Foxhole in some small way helps us to remember and honor those who came before us.

Georgia on our mind
So here we are, in the Deep South, Ochlocknee, Georgia...almost.
We aren't in any city, but Ochlocknee is our post office. It's a short pleasant 10 mile country drive to the grocery and the town of Thomasville.
We like it out here in the country and this time we plan to stay put for a while, Lord willing and the creek don't rise or the saints... and all that.
Direct TV isn't bad at all, although admittedly we rarely watch tv.
Dial-up internet is painfully slow.
The dogs are good. We have a decent amount of yard fenced off for them with a temporary farm fence. Miss Scarlett loves to chase the bugs out here and on the land behind us lives a young female "Sarge look-alike" named Miss Tilley.
Sarge just sits and pines away for her. I'm pretty sure she thinks he's a handsome fella.
Sarge, flirting with Miss Tilley
We have poisonous toads here and we have to watch the dogs carefully at dawn and dusk. They think it's fun to play with the toads.
Miss feather, we have lots of dragonflies, they like to tease the dogs. It's like they know the dogs can't catch them.
We have all kinds of birds, Sam saw a pileated woodpecker a couple days ago, I'm jealous!. We have blue jays and cardinals, warblers and finches and a few different woodpeckers. Roosters crow in the early morning and the woods yield lots of strange sounds at night.
The sky is quite beautiful out here, you can see more than you can in the cities and suburbs. It's like camping out only with a house instead of a tent.
Oh yeah, somewhere between Oregon, North Carolina and Georgia, we got married to each other...in Florida. :-)
We can open burn out here. (note to samwise: with permits!)
The past two Saturdays we spent the entire day watching our burn pile burn. Sam has done such a fine job of clearing the land that we have plenty more to burn when the days are good for it. It's a great way to relax.
Gnats, they are horrible at certain times of the day. The road system is good and the people in the nearby towns are what we find here typically, nice southern polite folks.
We're mostly settled in and hopefully a time will come when we will be able to fence the entire acre in and the dogs can have free roam of the place, that'll be nice.
We wish we could be online more but there is a lot to do and I'm away about 11 hours a day during the week commuting to Tallahassee and Sam is always busy with the chores. And did I mention, dial-up is awful?
All in all, we're blessed and truly enjoying ourselves, the house, the dogs and the area. Now that the humidity of summer is over the weather is quite pleasant.
I'd love to share more pictures with you but in case you missed it, dial-up is awful to work with and we can only be on-line one computer at a time.

LOL! After years and years of desk jobs and then being a Capitalist Pig, I needed to lose the weight. It got frustrating at times but knowing it was "our" acre helped my attitude.
Hey Par35, looks like this thread gets classified as a "Treadhead" Thread. :-)
Thanks for the congrats. :-)

Ditch the dial up and get DSL. Every chnace we get we "mention" to the phone company how nice it would be to get DSL in our area, so far they haven't decided to take our suggestion.
Keep your head down and take care.

I hope you can find an alternative to that dial-up. It really does stink, doesn't it? I remember it all too well from our days stuck with WebTV. LOL! OMG! I remember the Web-TV people, I guess that was almost as bad as dial-up. We're hoping to find some alternative but for now it looks like we're stuck with dial up.
P I've always wanted to have a place out in the sticks (even if it means having dial up). This is like my dream come true, a great woman, some dogs and land down in the South. It don't get much better, except that "DIAL UP SUCKS!!! ;-)
P.S. Snippy helped around here too

Hey there, SAM. I still think you should check into DirectWay. I've never had it; but if if couldn't get DSL, I'd try it.

Drink Up!
READ: John 4:7-14
Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. John 4:14
In 1981, Ida's Pastry Shoppe in Jenison, Michigan, advertised this special offer: "Buy one of our coffee mugs for $4.79 and fill up your cup for a dime each time you visit."
But the owners never expected that 25 years later, four longtime customers would still be getting their cup of java every dayfor 10 cents.
You won't find many deals like that anymore. But Jesus offered something far greater to the woman at the well (John 4:10). He said, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but . . . the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life" (vv.13-14).
The woman at the well was ready to listen. None of her many personal relationships had ever filled up her emptiness. Then Jesus offered her "water" that would soothe her parched life and give her something morethe promise of eternal life.
That same promise is ours as well. Jesus said, "I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly" (John 10:10).
God's grace and love come from a bottomless reservoir. Drink from the water He offers, and you will never thirst again. Cindy Hess Kasper
Gracious and Almighty Savior,
Source of all that shall endure,
Quench my thirst with living water,
Living water, clear and pure. Vinal
