If you found them at Fort Rucker, why didn’t you turn them in to someone there?

Good Question. Had and to this day have no faith in this tag getting to where it needs to be.There’s got to be another way.

These tage are probably 45 yrs old.

if they’re that old there’s no way the people at ft rucker would know who they belonged to. they dont keep records on post that old. best contact the army records people in st louis.

Huh.. I always thought Dogtags were similar to a Driver’s License.. If found, drop in any mailbox and the PO automatically sends it to the proper administrative authority.

Wish they were mine. I gave my original set of dog tags to a crackhead girlfriend I met right out of boot camp and dated for about three weeks (before I realized she was a crackhead). Sure wish I had them today to give to my wife or son.

Hmmmmm, I don’t know where my dog tags are but I was stationed at Ft. Rucker about 45 years ago!

Guess I should have added, RA18749949. In those days the U.S. Army did not use SSNs

So did I. But I just looked it up to see if there was an official procedure. IIRC the military ID says to drop it in the mail. It's been nearly 17 years since I had a military ID, so I'm not certain if that is/was right.

I have a current military ID (CAC) and it mentions nothing about what to do if found. Not something I’d lose though, what with name, birthdate, and social on it :/

I can't honestly remember. I do remember having an ID that said to do that if found, but I can't say for certain if it was my Military ID (US Air Force), or something else I had at the time. It may have been my driver's license from Idaho. I just remember the statement of dropping it in the mail if found.

Hmmm.. I know I’ve heard that phrase from somewhere before, but all I can say for sure is that it isn’t on TX DL or military CAC.

With my memory, it was probably a video rental card...
