Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma said the federal government already has six job-training programs for veterans and there is no way to know how well they are working. He argued that making progress on the country’s debt was the best way to help veterans in the long-term.

The Montgomery G.I. Bill - Active Duty
The Montgomery G.I. Bill - Selected Reserve
Veteran’s Educational Assistance Program (VEAP)
Veteran’s Upward Bound

I am a veteran.

Anyone who went in to get pork from congress was in for the wrong reason.

Its a bad bill which we have no money to pay for, and I really don’t care who pointing that out pisses off.

He’s probably correct; on his part this is a tactical error and if he wants to truly help veteran employment at least within the federal government one way to do it would be to pass a law stipulating veteran preferance trumps affirmative action goals every time.
