It's occurred to me and others that the Navy is pursuing an all eggs in one basket with the continuation of building aircraft carriers and the ships to support and shield them.

When an enemy can launch a fusillade of anti-ship missiles or several air burst tactical nukes is there a better way? In the 60's McNamara, of Ford fame and fortune, was given credit for the DDG class which ended up being top heavy along with the vulnerability of having an aluminum superstructure to compensate and poor sea keeping ability.

Now the Navy wants to build a new frigate with more capability. What are your ideas?

There is not one answer. Different missions require different capabilities. Maybe we need to recognize that some missions are not achievable. For standoff land attack, submarine-launched missiles seem to be the ticket.

I’m not sure anything is close to the aircraft carrier for surface dominance. You can do a lot more on the surface than you can underwater.

Smaller, conventionally-powered platforms for drones. Drones are the future of naval aviation.

I’m no engineer, but can we call the first one made the “U.S.S. Chris Kyle?” “Kyle Class” sounds really cool.

Small and modular. Made out of steel and composite materials. Not aluminum. Capable of taking a hit and staying in the fight. And then being swapped out of the line and replaced by another. Frigates. Like Old Ironsides during the days of sail. And lots of them.

Remove pilots from the cockpit and the need for aircraft carriers goes away.Build dozens of lethal, wickedly fast and agile drones for the cost of each F35. Build vessels to launch the drones, including subs.

The left will take power again. From what I have seen of their next generation, it's time to start stockpiling sticks and stones.

Unsinkable floating concrete islands that can be towed into place and used as airfields.

Ships that can rapidly deploy multiple surface drones with short-range anti-aircraft missiles that can serve as skirmishers and that can carry one or more torpedoes and/or serve as kamikaze strike vessels. Rapidly deploted subsurface drones that can serve as skirmishers for anti- sub duty, including warhead/kamikaze capability.

Full Auto 18” laser/radar guided to use conventional ammo that does not cost much.

Read Arlie Burke's notes and replay his speeches for hints what an expert would do and by all means keep Congress and demonicrats out of the process.

First step: expel ALL employees either born overseas, or born of foreign parents, or with any foreign relatives, from the DoD, and from any projects working on the ship, whatsoever.

I’d like to see the carrier, or the whole group, surrounded by hundreds of very small and fast drones. Each of the drones would be armed with .50 cal gatling guns, some kind of missile defense, and torpedo detection with counter measures. The drones would operate in a hive-like structure, sending info to one another about any and all threats to the carrier, instantaneously deciding which drone or drones would engage the threat/s. I like this concept for a couple of reasons. One, incoming threats could initially be dealt with farther from the carrier, and two, a system like this could engage many many threats simultaneously, such as a ‘swarm’ type attack, all done with very little human involvement.
