You do realize that the Gazelle was a joint British/Italian/ (expletive deleted) venture?

LOL! If only it were that easy!

(Gen) Franks' orders to Colonel Don Holder, the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment commander, were to avoid a decisive engagement (???). Holder's troops had successfully destroyed one Iraqi battalion strong point, but there were still at least six or seven more battalions waiting for the US regiment, which did not have the combat power to break through the Tawakalna's defenses. Holder, therefore ordered his squadrons to hold at their current positions and prepare to pass the 1st Infantry Division, which had moved behind the Regiment, forward.

Am I reading too much into this but is this positive or negative reflection on Gen. Franks?

Hey Sam and everybody in the Foxhole! I have jury duty this week. I didn't get picked to sit on a jury today, so I'm free until tomorrow morning when I'll go through the whole process again.

This thread is so interesting to me, because I know so little about the Desert Storm ground war. Thanks so much Sam for your hard work each day.

I wish I could hang out in the Foxhole all day, but I have two projects to complete for my square-filler English class, and a ColdFusion test to study for. Waaaaaaaaaah! I'm tired of school. (But I guess I shouldn't complain too much - at least I don't have a j-o-b!) hahahahaha

Good Luck with Jury Duty, AntiJen. Mark Davis from Newstalk 820 WBAP Ft. Worth-Dallas Texas was summoned to Jury Duty and appeared but was released the very same day. You never know what will happen.

Good afternoon SAMWolf. Bookmarked. I love studying armored warfare.

Watching Helen Thomas ask yet another idiotic question to Ari in the press briefing. (I need to go puke now.)

My read is that Franks didn't want the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment getting into anything it couldn't handle until more support could be brought up. Overly cautious? Maybe, but he was the Commander on the ground at the time and based his decisions on informatiion he had at the time..

Today was jury selection for two civil cases and one criminal - a DUI. I was in the group for the DUI case but got 'struck' by one of the lawyers (probably defense). Who knows what cases there will be tomorrow. All 90+ of us in the jury pool have to go through this process every day this week unless we get picked for a jury, or the judges run out of cases.

Hey! Did you watch Survivor-Marquesas a couple seasons ago? Paschal "Pappy" English was one of the contestants and he's a judge in this district. I was hoping to get on a jury in his courtroom, but dang it, they called me for a case with a different judge. Maybe tomorrow... hahahahaha
