Mon - This is a great daily thread in the VetsCoR forum that you may like. The Foxhole is a good place to learn about American military history and issues of interest to veterans and to meet some really nice FReepers and veterans who hang out here.
Please consider this your personal invitation to "fall in" to the FReeper Foxhole! If you like it, I will 'ping' you to each new thread so you can easily find our location.
Foxholers - check out Mon's profile. Congratulations are in order!!!

But in the end, it did more to create a true "United" States than any event in our history. I am still not sure which side I would have fought for had I already been in the Army when the war started.

That would have been a tough decision but I'm pretty much a States Righter, don't like the strong Federal government meddling into things it has no authority to be involved in. I guess it wuld have depended on where I lived.

Thanks for the thread today. I find Civil War history to be depressing. I enjoy reading about it though and gathering the facts.

1924 Henry Mancini Cleveland OH, composer/conductor (Pink Panther)
I love him. Did you know Glenn Miller turned him down when he auditioned to be a part of his band?
"When World War II began Mancini was drafted. He was encouraged to audition for Glenn Miller's Band and, although he didn't make it, Miller recommended him for a spot in the 28th Air Force Band. After the war, he got a job as a pianist and arranger with the Glenn Miller Band, now run by Tex Beneke after Miller's death".
He won an Academy Award in 1954 for his work on "The Glenn Miller Story."
